Velvet Glove Team Blueprint Member 532 Member For: 22y 13d Posted 14/05/04 03:58 AM Share Posted 14/05/04 03:58 AM VG ..... I was having some fun ..... I'm glad there is a standard procedure and we all get treated like license numbers and expiry dates (just kidding I think)... but the way it is performed can be sometimes very comical  officer has radar reading, you are given a chance to look at it ....... why ???? really, I'd like to know why !!! to check to see if the cop is lying ???? I think it is dumb :o as far as being told their equipment is in perfect working order and in the same breath they spell out your rights of appeal ..... I think that is a cheek and it is dumb maybe they could also add that in Mexico no-one gets off in court ... no-one cheers For starters many people will dispute the speed, depite the fact that its a laser or a radar, so showing them shuts them up. When you ping them in heavy traffic showing them and allowing them to see how it works shows them you couldnt possibly have gotten it wrong. They pay the fine and everything is fine. When they do anything but pay the fine its additional unnecessary paperwork for us.Many people doubt everything we say and I have lost count of the number of not guilty pleas I have avoided by showing people the speed. How would you feel if you were accused of a speed, you didnt think you were going that fast, and a copper refused to show it to you.Spelling out your rights of appeal, well that's just standard procedure these days for evrything from traffic tickets to council decisions to workplace issues. Its hardly cheeky and, again, saves us annoying paperwork when somebody writes a letter disputing the TIN to someone tother than what they should have.I know you're only trying to have some fun, but saying something is stupid when you aren;t aware of the full facts doesnt help. Imagine if you were in busy traffic and a copper picked you out as doing 83 when you thought you were going the same as everyone else. He/she solves the problem by showing you the speed and availing you of your rights of appeal.Maybe no-one gets off in Vic, but that's not the case in the rest of Australia. Stats show here that about 95% of TINs are successful (I.e. get paid or result in a court win for the Police). Of that well over 90% just get paid without a second thought. Lets say, at best 90% of people just pay the TIN, that means that a lot of people do get off, where I come from......but dont get me started on magistrates Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/5747-experiences-with-the-police/page/7/#findComment-122194 Share on other sites

I was driving like I normally do. LIke a bloody idiot but legal. Tkaing a round about at the full capacity of the car, you can get the picture. So this night I am turning from nuwara road onto the entrance to the m5. Th ecops where coming the other way. They did a quick turn around hte round about and pull me over. Guns drawn and aimed at me. One at the back left corner and the other stood beside the drive side rear door. Order me to throw my keys out of the car. Then my licence and what I was doing.Explained that I was driving home. They told me I was driving the car liek I had Stolen it . To this I reply I didnt think that I was illegal to go around a roundabout at that speed as I wasnt going over the posted 60km limit. After a while of talking and stuff the gave me back my keys and I was off.The most annoying part to me till this day is that Once they knew who I was adn that the car was in fact not stolen. They still treated me Like I had stolen it. The guy never stepped up to me window adn the other one never left teh back of the car with his gun drawn. WTF!OK be catious but then be friendly. Wayne Although it is not specifically illeagal to go around a roundabout at the speed limit it is not pudent. If you were to need to brake in an emergency, your car would most likely act more violantly than if you were going in a straight line. I once stopped a gentleman in his mx5, he went around a 90 degree corner at 70 km/hr which was the posted speed limit. When I spoke with him he said, that it was a sportscar and that he dosn't speed, he just dosn't slow down. I thought that yes it's not an offence specifically if it was we would need to carry around a dictionary of offences. But the fact that a reasonable and prudent person wouldn't drive in such a manner made me thick that he was acting negligently. I then promptly issued him a ticket for negligent driving and told him that he should slow down from now on. Up until this stage he had argued with me all the way but when I told him that he could elect to go to court he said he didn't fight the police, I wish that was true for all of them. To add to that all roads have a level of maximum grip at any particular time and a maximum speed if you exceed that speed the rear wheels will overtake the front wheels and the vehicle will yaw out of control and you will not be able to gain control until speed is reduced this will not give you any time to react on a roundabout. It is fun to drive our cars but not when it impacts on other road users. This is not supposed to be a downer just a heads up, if you drive your car like you stole it you have to expect to contribute to government involuntarily. I think we all have come across good and bad police. I have personally worked with both, some can be over the top. We all have to deal with what can be the dregs of society and sometimes that rubs off. I believe that its better to be safe than sorry, and a caution can be more benifical than a ticket. That said imagine if you received the same scrutiny from the public in your job. Thought about this thread straight away, and had trouble holding up the device.
