(OK written)First, remeber a couple of things. 1. I've been caught speeding a faire share over the years and can only say I deserved them all.2. The following events happend over 30 years ago when things were somewhat different.I lived and worked around the Hawksbury district in NSW. At age 12 somewon gave me a copy of American Hot Rodder and I've never been the same since. From my first drive (14) I drove everywhere fast. Mostly dirt roads so car controll was learned early. As an apprentice, I drove to all types of places over all kinds of roads. No fast cars, stoff like Expensive Daewoo ute's & vans, Mini van, etc. However, didn't matter to me what or where, I drove everywhere fast. Every trip was a challenge to me to get there faster than the last time. Many of my mates had much faster cars than me but they couldn't stay with me. Over the years, I reckon I held every speed record around. (including the return journeys) EG: Windsor/ Colo, Windsor/Wisemans ferry, Windsor/Lithgow, Windsor/anywhere and anywhere else in between. Fastest I ever drove then was 125mph in a new 327 Monaro (Not mine) between Windsor & Riverstone. Very fast and exciting baack then. There were 2 local coppers based around Richmond and Windsor who were legends. John Johanidas (Cooper S) and Bill Cameron (Better known as Clutch Cameron) on a bike. I think Triumph. Anyway, in those days, the boys had to supposedly tail you to clock you before they book you. Many was the time when I would pass either of them going in the opposite direction (Me at flatout speed), see them pull up, U turn and chase after me. Of course I would always be pottering along at the limit by then, making sure to never look in the mirror to make eye contact. Got pulled over for vehicle checks many times by these two but never got booked once.Then..........Clutch got me......... I had a strange but fast car this time, cut down from a Austin A90 Atlantic, with a flat aluminium body pop rivited to a tube frame. No windscreen & only weighed 870 kg with a thumping 2.8 litre four. (Same as a Healy 100S). The Beast (as it was known among my mates) had a beautiful external exhaust down the side of the body in that metalic flexible pipe. Yep, pretty noisy......say....Fergerson tractorTraveling slowly up the main street of Windsor, I spotted Clutch suddenly in the mirror. He followed me all the way and finally pulled me over in front of the Macquarie Arms hotel. Inspected the Beast for a good ten minutes, got me to rev the guts out of it and finally booked me for excessive noise. He told me he was very angry 'cause he'd been after me for a long time and said if he caught me again for anything, It was going to be catch-up time.Well, I was a lot more careful after that and only went after new records out of the Hawksbury patrol area. Probably lucky to be alive in retrospect but had a great battle with those two good coppers.Mackthe... Posted 29/08/03 03:02 AM Share Posted 29/08/03 03:02 AM been to court 3 times, (swore I'd never go back each time) booked I don't know how many times (Speeding) had guns pulled on me once. (scary stuff) :o all in my youth. get booked perhaps once every two years now.Cops were all proffesional and some even had a sense of humor. Favorite story:I've got early model skyline, It runs a bit rough when cold so one day I was a bit slow getting away from the lights. a Cop (in an unmarked car) tooted me. I crept around the corner then moved out into the left lane. He gunned it to get past and I planted my foot. changing to 2nd, the wheels spun and up to 80kph. He could not pass me in his EA and when I reached my corner, Finger out the window and around I went. He locked up his car and reversed through the traffic lights and followed me. Anyway, he pulled me over and said:"whats wrong with you're car?"I said "Oh it does that when it's cold"he then said "whats wrong with your finger?"Funny. In the end, he let me off, I still havre no idea why, but I don't give the finger anymore! But - never been booked without deserving it. "Let off" far more times than I had any right to expect. One true story: About 1970 sold my 1951 $10.00 Triumph Mayflower and lashed out and bought a 1960 Morris Major for $90.00 so I would have a good, reliable car with a bit of power!!? The fact that all the tyres were showing canvas and it had no brakes didn't stop the local "mob" coming with me for a drive to the pub in the next country town. I think there were about 8 of us and I knew some of them! Of course, on the flat-out drive home, one of the tyres gave up. Was really shredded - might not have noticed for a while that the thing was flat!!!Of course there was no spare or tools etc, so we were stranded. One of the girls offered to hitch back town and get her dad to come out and help. Great, I said! and she got a ride quicksmart - nice looker!ONLY THEN did one of my mates say "Ya shouldn't have done that, her dad's the local police Sargeant!!!!" We pushed the car into some bushes, left it there and started walking! Guest EdMoorhouse Guests Posted 29/08/03 05:45 AM Share Posted 29/08/03 05:45 AM My favourite encounter was about 9 yrs ago. I was touring in the NT in my TX3Laser turbo 4wd. Going from A-Rock to A-Springs I was travelling at 160km/h when up ahead I see a Cop Car. He was only going about 100km/h so I was gaining fairly fast. Just kept her going and he did'nt blink an eye as I rounded him up and he dissapeared in the rearview mirror. Wouldn't it be great if we had some sensible speed limits in the other states? Never ever have I been let off a driving infringement.2x Neg driving2x speeding1x no signal(indication)The ones I like to remember are the ones that I avoided being caught. I was just merging into one lane in my AU after beating a magna of the lights when my radar detector went crazy. I was doing about 95 in a 60 so I jumped on the anchors and sure enough their they were with the laser gun in hand. As I passed them the officer stepped out and gave me one mean death stare. I would've liked to know what was going through his head as went past. One time I found amusing, I actually got off with a warning ... mainly because I was speeding to a bowls game in full creams and the copper saw the funny side. Maybe he just took pity on me ... Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/5747-experiences-with-the-police/page/2/#findComment-46456 Share on other sites
