Zf Transmission Concerns

You can give that a shot, but ford will tell you nothing is wrong as they dont like working on it.

Little bang sound? is that a metallic clunk? if so then bets are its got something to do with a mount, tailshaft or diff

Ive noticed with the ZF is that in normal D mode it can be fairly lazy on the down shift and prefers a more gradual throttle application, in Performance mode things are better but I reckon when you wanna gun the car around for best performance the manual mode works best.

The over revving may be a clutch problem but doesn't it go into limp mode when it notices a slip? It could be a tune problem?

My advice is to hunt around for someone to replace the oil and filter in the transmission and see how that goes, ill be doing that sometime as I have as many miles as you.

BTW after alot of testing and driving around for a week with DSC off I have hopefully concluded that yes it was my damn DSC being intrusive.

well after making many a phone call ive found the gearbox place that does both the local ford dealers rebuild work said the oil is about 50 bucks a litre $180 for the filter and less then 3 hours labour

he said he was unsure about the amount of oil needed but said he does a lot of zf rebuilds for marine and also other car dealers in the area and by luck the zf tech and sales rep is one of his mates who he has lunch with every friday

told me he will have a chat tomorrow about using Castrol Transmax Z oil instead of the ford stuff and give me a price for both options and also ask for a price on clutch packs out of interest

benji its funny u have the same prob as me, ford tested the box said nothing was wring with it, it seems to alwasys happen to me at low speeds, and cruising and after gear changing. I can replicate the problem when I pout it in sports mode , change gears as seen as possible , like 2 at 20kmh and 3 at 30 4th at 50 and 6 at 70 , when I change into 6ht it does it only in sixth.

ford said they dont service the box until 150xxx and my car has only done 80000 bf m2

did the same thing today, I entered a freeway and decided to give it a little upon entering and the car was doing fine, had it in performance mode with DSC off and it revved to about 4500-5000 in third and hit maybe 110-120 and again it felt like something cut out in the engine like the DSC kicked in but I had it off, nothing flashed on the dash and the car acted normal once I got off the freeway onto the highway.

Its really starting to do my head in and im starting to loose some faith in the car, as im having a few small little issues of late.

Is it possible that the injectors may have capped out? Or maybe the knock sensors retarding the timing? I always use BP ultimate fuel and its stock. Im going to book a dyno run hopefully soon to see if they can pin point the problem.

Any further ideas? I dont expect its the auto as if it was slipping it would probably redline.

If it is the ZF boxes you guys need that German expert tech from ZF to come down to your dealer and go for a drive with you. We have had him out a few times and he is able to tune the auto settings and see exactly what its doing. He is a bloody champion and loves the ZF box. You need to take your ford dealers foreman for a drive and make sure it is the box first and that the level is spot on, then they usually give ZF a call. It is a bit of a process just to make sure the level is ok.
