"View Results (Null Vote)" counts as a vote.

It is multiple-choice, and has been that way since it was setup so not sure what happened when you were voting.

I have the first three issues listed in the poll.

However, as rockafellqeinstien, you learn to drive around it and deal with it.

I had a rear diff bush fail on me and decided to check the diff and tailshaft backlash while I was under the car.

The diff backlash was fine as was the tailshaft. I did, however, discover both drive shaft inner CV's had what I would call 'excess' backlash.

The gearbox has, what I would call, a normal amount of backlash.

There are multiple drive train noises that can be mistaken for excess backlash though.

The rollover noise in the gearbox and clutch rattle have both been called 'backlash noise' by various people but isn't quite the case.

Rollover noise, I found, has been all but eliminated in my car by the use of Penrite SIN ATF oil and using the whole 4L out of the bottle instead of the 3.8L recommended in the owners manual.

The clutch rattle isn't as easy to remedy. I think it's due to the design more than anything and to get rid of it would more than likely entail a clutch assembly upgrade.

The calibration of the drive by wire system is something that amplifies the drivetrain shunt noise also.

If the dealer has told you the noise has all but been eradicated from the FG then he might be looking for a sale or he hasn't been in many manual equipped FG's.

If you're on the ball with gear changes you can eliminate the noise upshifting and downshifting, but it takes practice.

Good luck.

Can you tell me more about the calibration of the Fly by wire system? I am having trouble finding information on it.

there is in fact a fix...

There is a round knob in the middle of the ICC, I've found the more the knob is turned clockwise the more the sound goes away. Seriously as others have mentioned, you learn to drive around it.

Not really. Other than you don't need to be at full pedal travel to be at or near full throttle.

Imagine a graph with an x and y axis with a line that is linear from the bottom l/h corner to the top r/h corner.

You would expect throttle response to be the same right.

Well in my car it feels as if you only need to squeeze the throttle ever so slightly and the revs build extremely fast.

Hence the sudden rush of power not a linear delivery.

I hope this makes sense.

There's a couple of inherant design issues with the FG driveline, which were flagged at launch and sgined off at a level that basically acknowledged that every customer would complain :S

Thanks PD!

Anyway, now the awesome manufacturing people are working on fixes.

I'd be interested to know, anyone with an 8 get much noise? Most of the issues are around the 6.

Has anyone else noticed the gearbox idle noise? mine is savage on a cold morning, I left it idling while I helped my mum in the car and it sounded worse than my 96' Diesel Discovery!!! its not so bad once its warmed up though.. I might try putting 4 litres of Penrite in..

That worked for me dashturbo.

But are you sure it's all rollover noise and not the clutch rattling as well?

My clutch rattles shockingly when it's engaged. I'm guessing it might be the CSC bouncing back and forth because when I depress the clutch pedal slightly it goes away.

Howdy..

My clutch rattles a lot, but doesn't shudder as such even though I had a couple of big

slips, and gearbox has minor backlash paticularly when cold and at low speeds.

I assume after the work I'm having done this week my clutch won't be at all happy for

much longer, so will need replacing more likely anyways...

Oh, 18,000ks and tuned to 285rwkw since 4,000ks.

Cheers,

Dean

Hey PHANTMXR6,

what is a CSC?

I dont think it is the clutch noise because it tends to change with temperature, however with that said it could explain a bit of the clunk into gears (when driving). Any idea how to tell? mine is the opposite to a throwout bearing noise I.e. its noisy with my foot off the clutch and silent when I'm on the clutch.. Definitely only noisy when the input shaft is spinning.

Cheers
