hey all.

first time getting a ford and am looking for a xr6t. budget only allows me to get a BA Mk I or Mk II.

what should I be looking out for in a ba xr6t when buying one?

is the t5 gearbox that bad? how do I know if it needs replacement soon?

other than the usual carsales, carpoint, and tradingpost where can I look for one?

I always thought turbo engines requires oil change every 5k. some service it regularly at 10k?

1

what you guys think about this car? mileage on the high side for a 05? price very tempting though.

2

how about this?

3

cheers,

mercei

Out of those 3 I'd choose 1 or 2 as they have the 6sp box.

But I have seen on carsales BF11 XR6T's going for just over 20g.

Depends on what you can afford but personally I'd try to up the budget to get a newer car.

Hope that helps,

Howsee

mate I run the 5 spd and apart from the fact that 5th is a bit of a bitch it is a good box at stock power levels if you are thinking of modding you better go the 6 spd and be prepared to have the money for a clutch handy when you decide to mod

in all honesty you will be saving money spending a lil bit more on purchase price cos to convert a 5 spd to 6 aint cheap at all

stock power (zorst and filter should be fine) through the T5 will be fine, but if the bug bites and you want any more, you will need to look at converting, which as Ace has said is costly. Even a custom tune on the car will cause trouble through that box.

You really need to think, speaking specifically in gearbox terms, if you will ever want to mod the car further than zorst and filter. It is unfortunately very naive to think that a small power increase will satisfy you with these cars (not having a shot merceid, just the way it is)

get what you mean. its a endless pit to having more power.

how much can the T5 hold? 300kw?

and the oil change. you guys do it at 5k or 10k intervals?

If you got 300rwkw's through that box you'd only do it once/twice at most. Stock power levels (as in not pushing it at all) is sweet, but any fastgoing co-ersing will result in pop goes the weasel.

re oil change, personally it's 10k, as will be many people here, but many others also are 5k'ers. If you can fiscally justify it every 5k's then do it, will look better for resale!

EDIT: where are my (our) manners @ !!!
