New problem is with the engine temp. being higher than it was before which is causing detonation and limiting the amount of power it would otherwise be able to make. Reason for this seems to be my HDi Intercooler is substantially limiting airflow to the engine radiator causing engine temps to rise. I get the feeling I would have been best to leave the factory intercooler in place. Tuner is checking flow through the intercooler at the moment, but he tuned a stock falcon to a higher power level with no issues. So far hes been able to run around 9psi which was making about 225rwkw I think? I may be wrong there....Anyone had issues like this before?! Any ideas to over come this? Will talk with him about it later, I think it would be fair to say he probably wouldnt be on the same level as tuners you have over there. And may not have the benefit of working on as many xr6t's. stevet Member 85 Member For: 16y 9m 2d Posted 06/05/09 07:35 AM Author Share Posted 06/05/09 07:35 AM yeah good idea. if anyone else could provide any other solutions it would be greatly appreciated. Its hard to find people knowledgeable about XR6T's over here in NZ! Seems like the answer to almost anything Ford lies amongst these forums!Cheers

And if that is the case, then do yourself a favour and get a second opinion. In other words, you might consider trying a different tuner.
stevet Member 85 Member For: 16y 9m 2d Posted 06/05/09 08:43 AM Author Share Posted 06/05/09 08:43 AM yeah that is easier said than done, would have to travel quite a distance to go elsewhere and may encounter similar problems. And I am going off the fact that he tuned a stock XR6T to 330rwhp which is fairly decent. But I also realise there is more to a tune than peak power. I have heard of tuners in Auckland who are quite skilled wih falcons but im at the other end of the country!

Maybe the airflow is just too low on the dyno. Too much heatsoak? I find the piping in the engine bay to get quite hot, although the intercooler has always been ok, warm on the inlet side of the cooler but mostly cold the rest of the cooler. I have also removed the stone tray under the cooler and have had no issues on the freeway either. I made a conservative 236rwkw on LPG, everything else standard.
