Depreciated value too low to be much benefit.Don't really want to, though. Car is running as good as ever. So I figure I might replace my wife's car instead. She's looking at a Calais V V8, whereas I'd like to steer her into a turbo 6.The G6ET is the obvious contender, but I've not been keeping up with all the posts over the past 18 months....I've got a few questions I hope you guys might be able to answer. When the BA XR6T's were released, there were some teething problems.. especially with front brake disc warpage and steering rack issues. Items which were rectified under warranty, or by aftermarket mods. Are there any known issues with the FG falcon series?specifically the XR6T, G6ET or F6 ?So what's the condensed summary of the merits or disadvantages of the respective turbo 6 vehicles on offer. Is an XR6T with the luxury interior option a better choice over the G6ET?Given that I will tinker with which ever one I get, what are the limitations in each of these cars? cheerstom Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/57208-time-for-a-new-car/ Share on other sites

(Sorry - cars, I don't know so much about. Tax, I know plenty about!) Pete A Member 442 Member For: 16y 5m 9d Gender: Male Location: Castle Hill NSW Posted 29/04/09 02:22 AM Share Posted 29/04/09 02:22 AM I had a BAII XR8 and even though in the end it was a great car. I had all sorts of minor to major problems when I first got it. OK, 2 tranmissions and tailshaft later, the car was going great. Minor problems like disk warping, handbrake scraping. over the life of the car.. I've had the FG6T for 6 months, and not one single problem!I've seen posts from lots of others also stating how good the FG is. This is the best Falcon I've had - and I've had a few I can tell you. Go for it. Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/57208-time-for-a-new-car/#findComment-869431 Share on other sites

I haven't heard anyone with an early model complain yet, but I heard whilst testing them, Wheels had the traction control switch off randomly, and it wouldn't re-light without the engine being turned on and off.. Small problem, but I guess there's something technical going on there? There was a different approach to quality at orion launch and its really showing now that we're trying to get the territory to a similar level Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/57208-time-for-a-new-car/#findComment-869771 Share on other sites
rprodrive Member 21 Member For: 17y 3d Posted 29/04/09 12:17 PM Share Posted 29/04/09 12:17 PM (edited) I think the FG turbo is no different to any other Australian made Ford - it can be a gamble. Some people never have problems - others are plagued. Here is my list in the short few months I had the car:* returned to dealer 3 times for electronic throttle fault. Car would go in to limp mode without warning. Each time dealer said they had fixed the problem. * intermittent problem with the headlights - dash would show "headlight fault" from time to time. Not resolved.* rear left brake light would stop working on an intermittent basis. It was not the globe. Dealer could not fix the problem and each time told me there was nothing wrong and lights were working fine. Yeah right- other drivers on the road continued to tell me my brake lights were not working! Not resolved by Ford.* trip computer regarding estimated range was always wrong by approx 200kms. Dealer said they fixed it. Problem persisted.* accessory/drive belts started wearing prematurely (lots of rubber shearing under the engine bay). Not raised with dealer as I returned the car early to my employer (operating lease). Honestly, if they continue to tell you it's fine and it's not, I'd get very frustrated and would either ask for a new vehicle or get purchase price back. thorxr6t Member 91 Member For: 21y 27d Gender: Male Location: Sydney Posted 30/04/09 05:06 AM Share Posted 30/04/09 05:06 AM I agree with "rprodrive", and furthermore in my opinion, the FG turbo is no different to ANY other car including BMW which I had a couple in the past. For example, my previous e90 325 had these problems: oil consumption (1 litre top up for every 5000kms!), noisy engine, premure wear and tear on all suspension bushes, noisy brakes, faulty brake pad sensors, faulty steering lock mechanism, all sorts of iDrive gremlins, run flat tyres, plastic door panels fell off or loosed, and on and on...The XR6T, G6ET and F6 are great performance cars that don't cost an arm and 2 legs! So it really depends on your budget and taste. My wife preferred the Calais v v8 because it was easier to handle/drive as the power delivery was more progressive than the turbo. Finally, those that suffer accessory/serpentine belt rubber shavings/shearing/schredding problem. I may have a cure, check out my post: http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.ph...c=55799&hl= Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/57208-time-for-a-new-car/#findComment-870040 Share on other sites

Seems like you found a few problems that were made much worse by the fact that the dealer continuously failed to fix anything. Is this a common problem in the FG turbos? If yes, has the cause been clearly identified with a proper cure?I love my ute because it has NO issues at all.Last thing I want is issues that'll have me wasting time at dealer service centres!
