unfortunately mate I dont think even travel agents themselves get special secret deals. The best thing is to book in advance or wait for the good specials. If you can get a good travel agent though they will definately do a good job. Recently when we went to the states, my travel agent spent her days off trying to get us the right flights etc and looked every couple of hours for new specials etc

if you get the right agent they are extremely worth the money

but dont take my word for it as far as secret specials and stuff, maybe im wrong :)

My last encounter with travel agents left me cold.

Much better to do it yourself.

Lastminute for accomodation and webjet for airfares.

I have found that if you mention the word honeymoon, you tend to get upgraded rooms.

The whole tourisim industry is hurting badly, so you will find great deals. I saw jetstar advertising flights to asia for $69

Do some searching and you will find great deals.

Perhaps not.

Disagree with Zapper on the webjet thing for domestic flights at least, usually the exact same flights direct on the airline's website will be cheaper. Just have to be prepared to take off-peak flights, book as far in advance as possible, and come to terms with the fact that any re-booking fees will cost you more than the actual flights.

Only real way to get massive discounts is through airline employee rates really.
