I do like the idea of using a wiring loom rather than the old Unichip approach of wire cutting and soldering (maybe a question for APS if they still do this).

Any Unichip tuning is done by the tuner, possibly for warranty and reputation reasons, rather than let individuals fiddle with adjustments.

As for tuning capability, more information will be made available re the adjustability capability of fuel, timing etc, with the latest version of these units, but at the end of the day the result is very much dependent on the person doing the dyno tuning & setup.

Hi guys,

I read this thread with interest and I suspect that most if not all interceptor computers (piggyback) will tap into the stock Ford wiring loom. Point is, it needs to be performed neatly to ensure a good solder connection between the wires and then the loom to be re-taped with quality electrical tape.

With regard to tuning aftermarket computers, be they Unichip, Motec, Chip Torque etc. it is definitely a task best left to a professional tuner with the right equipment, knowledge and experience to ensure the best possible result – with a lot less grief to the owner.

From our experience the Ford ECU is very complex and without an accurate dynamometer and the right scanning and diagnostic tools (to see exactly what is happening in real time), even an experienced tuner will struggle to achieve the optimum safe level of torque and power.

No matter what brand of ECU product you choose to enhance your XR6T, have it tuned by the best engine tuner you can find. This will save you time, money and frustration.

I am guessing that you are from Brisbane. We recently had very good feedback from 3 or 4 customers in Brisbane who were delighted with CNJ Motorsports (http://www.4wddyno.com.au). CNJ are amongst the cream of Australian tuners and I would highly recommend that anyone in Brisbane looking for more power from their XR6 Turbo speak with CNJ. You will find them very knowledgeable about dynamometer testing and engine tuning.

Ultimately, it is the combination of the technology, tuning knowledge and equipment that wins the day.

Let’s declare the official opening of HSV hunting season now open! :D

Im not sure but I thought that the Xede had an adapter that plugged in between the ECU and the harness and the wiring was tapped into that? This would be good so that it can be removed with out detection can this be done with the Unichip?

cheers

Lachlan, I hate my ute now.

It has a mind of its own - at least that is my excuse when these tyres don't last long................

Best thing I have ever done. I only wish it had a stronger 'box in it - 6 new injectors and more boost. Damn, it is like a drug! :D

I gave my mate in his SS a head start of two car lengths (approx) and then absolutely MOWED him down. He was impressed (seriously).

I think I might skip the HSV's and go for something quicker......

Turbo4LT,

It is my understanding that both products are physically installed in the same manner. It would be best if your question were directed directly to Lachlan in order to clear the issue up once and for all.

Hi all,

To clarify,

The XEDE is spliced into the existing wiring harness at this time. Although any of the "Piggyback" manufacturers or importers would love to have a direct plug-in harness for the Visteon PCM to do what TURBO4LT describes, it is still difficult to get the plugs at present. When/if that changes, we'll post here to let everyone know.

Yesterday SAS (Sydney) quoted me $1500 for the XEDE, stage 1 running 8-9lb, including dyno. Estimate is an extra 30-35rwkw.

No other changes.

So the $990 must be a Qld special???

Stage II with exhaust etc tba.
