OK I'm going to get this one running again

I have had my wheels balanced at least 3 times and my tailshaft balanced once.

Went out on the highway yesterday and same thing, constant vibration.

The dealer reckons he doesnt get it, so I'm taking him out for a run to convince him next week.

I reckon its the tyres, but these blokes just wont take the plunge and try a different set on the car. Next week its get tough time and I dont reckon I should leave until they have got this problem sorted. What are my rights in terms of demanding they try a different set on the car, or do I have to go thru the Ford Customer Service line?

Since I work in the city the car sits around for a few dfays at a time, so I guess this doesnt help the flat spot issue.

Other threads have complained about the Ozzie Dunlops getting flat spots etc, what are your experiences?

The SP3000s on the 17inch rims definitely flat spot. Mine will do it overnight.

I park it in the garage on warm tyres after the run from Sydney to Wollongong, and in the morning it shakes like buggery for the first 5 minutes at anything over 90km/h. After I get some heat in them they are ok.

They dont seem to be a great tyre/rim combo. Ive had a hell of a time getting mine balanced properly, and there seems to be a large amount of weights needed. Dont seem to hold their balance long either.

Oh well, they havent got long left anyway

I bought new wheels for mine, but it's the tailshaft out of balance, goodluck getting it fixed I've been waiting for six weeks for the dealer to get the balancer in.

Ah the vibration thing. Mine has also had it since new and finally after getting a second opinion I am having two Dunlop tech guys come and drive it and check the tyres out. The dealer I am dealing with, Dominelli Ford BTW, seems pretty keen on fixing my problem so I'll have to wait and see I guess. They seem to think that the tailshaft is not a big issue and I tend to agree. But anyway I shall post again once I have an answer from Dunlop.

Henry, go for long drive with the Service Manager or whoever at the dealer and show them what the problem is.

The first dealer I took it to, the selling dealer of course, said they knew what was wrong and didnt even road test it once. And the car was there 3 times, still not fixed. Not happy Jan !

It's all about communication. Tell and show them your concerns.

Had a fella from Dunlop drive the car yesterday and we had a good look at the tyres and it turns out that the l/h front was a bit out of shape, almost an oval in fact !. They replaced the tyre free of charge and now its all ok.

Pity the first dealer didnt think to do that.

Glad to hear it's fixed! Bet it feels great to drive a smoooth car after the hassles. The cause sorta backs up what I've been on about on this topic.

I reckon it's tragic that we still don't seem to be able to make consistently round tyres on Australia. If the technology is there to do it in Europe and Japan, then why not here?

Just one of the little mysteries of life!

Mines done this since new, when cold at highway speeds (I live 2kms from a freeway) the car has a vibration, after about 5-10mins it goes away when the tyres warm up.

I thought it may have been the tyres flat-spotting and now I am convinced.
