In my opinion, you still want an intercooler with the best cooling and best flow. There is usually a trade off between the two. So you want one with low pressure drop but great cooling. A cooler with a lot of pressure drop for example will make the turbo work overtime to make the boost your want.

Water spray kits should really only be an emergency back up. Not to be relied upon all the time by using a crappy intercooler.

My nephew just fitted the hdi2 intercooler kit and for $900 this is serious bang for buck if not the best HDTV at the moment! I can let you know what his final figures are when he gets it tuned in a couple of Weeks.

I just fitted a water spray set up $220 all up.


-Shureflow 45psi pump $145 ( I considered the ebay copies for $30+ but went for the genuine metal bodied shureflow, as it's mounted next to the air box in the engine bay.)


- Nylex makes a brass misting / fog nozzle (needs 40PSI to operate) $16 bunnings (vapourises really well, the mist hangs in the air for a long time)


(uses 1ltr with 3min of continuous use of 45PSI pump)



Temporary 5ltr tank in boot (will make a custom fibreglass one, once I know exact water usage. $8


Temporary momentary switch, to turn on the pump $2 Have a temperature controller coming from china $20


At the moment, If the pump is on for 1 second, pressure build up in the 1mtr long line squirts for about 5 seconds.

So my 5ltr tank lasts 900 squirts.


I will have temp read out for hot side of cooler, and temperature control reading cold side of cooler (in car adjustable) ($20 delivered from china) Autospeed reviewed the controller and stated it is worth $150, and very high quality.


Once I get the temp controller, I will have onboard controll and read outs.


But just testing it, has had huge benefits. On a 35deg day, the car is like a standard 6, retarded to the max, and sluggish. If I squirt once every 10 minutes (9000 minutes with 5 ltrs) The car performs like a cold crisp morning, even with the aircon on.


After a hard run boosting as much as possible and squirting every 5 minutes, the cooler felt like a fridge (nice and cold)

There's also a noticable difference in engine temp.

I looked at using a pressure switch off boost, but it makes more sense to use a temp controller in the air flow at each side of the cooler. Plus I can dial it up and down while driving.

The reason I did this was simple I don't want to change the look of the cooler system from stock, and being tuned to 290RWKW it runs alot hotter than stock tune, with original Fpv cooler.

I'm pretty happy how well it works.

I've also set it up so I can disconnect 1 jet, have 2 on, but 1 seems enough. Will know more once I install controller.

Nice work. The temp controller looks like a bargin. Only problem I can see is how to place the probe.

I have almost finished my setup too. I have the gauge in and have tapped temp sensors into the intercooler. The tank and pump are in the boot. I just need to install the tubing and a wire from my relay to the pump. Taking a while as I just installed the T56 over the weekend.

I took plenty of pics of the temp sensor install and hope to do a little tutorial later on.

My jets are simple garden mist sprayers, wont be as good as yours so I will be interested to compare results.

I'm not going to use the probes that come with the units. Jaycar has various thermistors, that can be wired up,(nice and small) and tucked inside the pipes on each side, just seal off with silicone sealer, before clamping.

One more thing the system needs is a check valve (oneway flow valve) on the water supply line before the pump. (water drains back to the tank under hard acceleration.

Will look at low pressure check valves for fish tanks, and mount in boot just after the tank.
