but seriously, whos turbo has sh*t itself because of something other than the oil supply filter. anyone ?

Through work we usually see a few a week for repair.

If the oil feed is cleaned every say 50k, I would say you would really have bugger all that go. Dirty airfilters (FOD - foreign object debris) aside, there is SFA that goes wrong - hence my post.

Sure we see turbos failing for other reasons as well but the most common are in the first post.

Head droop from hot shut downs.

The Phenolic cage failing.

Carbon build up in the turbo and oil feed line.

Warn bearings.

I understand your scepticism. I sure you have probably come across others that have speculated on what some of the issues may be without ever actually having seen a turbo apart.

Everything in the first post is from what we see inside turbos after they have failed.

It would be very hard if not impossible to clean the factory oil feed line properly. Blowing air throw it, soaking it in a wash bay, soaking it in carbon clean is still not going to get rid of all the carbon and even if it somehow did. How could you check it? Good chance you would have loosened some of it up so now it will be getting pumped into the turbo.

I think a new line is safer. That’s my opinion. You’re entitled to yours.

Same goes for fitting a new turbo or rebuilt turbo. Better to start with a nice new oil feed line than risking destroying your new turbo.

When the turbo shop pulls the turbo down and sees it full of crap they and Garrett are not going to cover it under warranty.

I have a turbo timer in my xr6 and its really pointless cause while my car is idleing I cant centre lock it lol so I basically have to wait for it to shut down then lock it so really I may as well just wait 2 mins without a turbo timer then just lock it I dunno maybe my turbo timer is set up wrong im not sure does anyone else have this problem ???

turbo tube oil supply - FOBA9G440A - about $62.00

turbo oil filter - FOBA9P424A - about $130.00

from your local fraud dealer

Can someone please clarify if a turbo oil filter is supplied with the turbo tube oil supply (P/N: FOBA9G440A)?

What about any gaskets / washers etc??? If required, can someone please advise part numbers.

Just get ETM or similar oil feed set up.

Ford replacement will nearly cost you as much anyway.

Say you replace the factory pipe, filter every 50 000 to 60 000k's

well the etm set up would have saved you money as well your turbo.

My turbo nearly siezed at 90 000k, pulled the factory filter out

to find it 3/4 clogged.

So rough estimate it would be around half clogged at 60 000k.

the factory filter is very tiny and it probably should be changed every

oil change for your turbo to get required oil.

probably changed after a week from new due to engine bedding in and sand casting and

anything else that may contaminate the filter element.

With the ETM set up or similar you can just clean the filter element each oil change

and if needed maybe replace the filter element every 50 000k.

The filter would be near 1/3 the price of the factory filter.

Revheadrobbo, you have 1000k before you need to replace your turbo lol

Mine started to get noisy at 126 000k

36 000k from when It nearly siezed & I ditched the factory filter and ran no oil line supply filter at all.

It would have been on borrowed time since it nearly siezed.

Anyone who knows me knows I drive, erm... sedately shall we say for the constables watching, my car has just ticked over 115000, has been modified since 35000 and the in line filter has never been touched. Original turbo original engine, no nansy pansy turbo timer sh*t and very rarely is let to cool too long, I am always late, lol.
