Its common knowledge that aftermarket fluids are better than from the Factory, but what should I be using. Im coming up for the FG 3000k tire kick and want to get better fluids throughout the car, especially the gear box. Ive read that will reduce the rear clucking abit. Im not sure I would trust Fords fluids for the price they charge.

However where do I get these "premium fluids", what brands and products etc and anyone recommend somewhere north of the river in Brisbane?

Thanks

Most good Synthetic oils are fine, brands like Motul, Royal Purple, Nulon (Australian Made) etc are popular for the Engine. For the gearbox most people have found Castrol Transmax Z to be very good, improving shift quality and making the box a little quieter.

Just remember that you are buying high end stuff, so you will pay high end dollar.

yeah but you get what you pay for and im more than happy to pay for a decent end result. Thing is though, can I just walk into a garage and say "premium fluids please"? :w00t2:

Put simply, I wouldn't trust myself going into a workshop nad saying, "I'll have the better oils thanks". Who knows what they use and what they deem as "better"

Your best bet is to go and buy the stuff yourself, then take it with you and say, "Put this in the car please"

That way you know you've got what you wanted.

cheers guys

I know I got pretty angry with a fella who serviced my Ranger at ford over how expensive the oils were when he actually showed me the product.

Just im new to actually giving a crap about the car and taking an interest in engines and want the best for my new toy. Outer interest is it easy to do it all my self, I used to be an engineer back in England so im mechanically minded, but just starting out tinkering under the hood.

Edit:

I just looked at the Castrol Site and Transmax Z is listed as an Auto Oil, ive got the manual.

Yeah its pretty easy to do an engine oil change. The gear box will be tricky as youll need to get it on a hoist to pump the new oil back into it. If you have a yooot the diff shouldnt be too hard to do

I know it sounds strange, but the Manual Gearbox (6spd) use a DextronIII Auto Trans Fluid. I'm not sure of the technicalities for it, but you'll find a sticker on the side of your box that says DEXTRON III.
