Went past a tuner in my area today and got a quote for a tune.. total was $1200.. that included flash box and tune..

I have an 03 xr6t manual with heavy duty 1250lb clutch,, hiflow cat and a k&n panel filter.. he said with those mods the car will make about 190 - 205 rwkw.. Does this sound right?

I want about 230/240rwkw and he said to get to that I will also have to get a new exhaust from turbo back to achieve that..

I wouldn't mind some thoughts on the topic and the quote and RWKW results he gave me..

an 03 manual should make approx 170 - 185 rwkw so yes 205rkw is pretty conservative IMO as you have done the cat to free up the exhaust a bit. I would expect you should get 230-250 atw

Is the tune one slot only or all 3 ? Price seems ok if all 3 slots. You get what you pay for.

Can I ask where abouts you are from ?

Buf: Do you mean the 3 slots on the tuner? he didnt mention anything about different settings so im assuming it's only 1 main one.. if your saying I should get 230(ish)atw with a hiflow cat,, why didnt he mention that? Im from melbourne ,, northern suburbs

Kona: Went to Electronic Automotive,, heard he's a good tuner and local also.. he tuned my cousins boyfriends XR6t and got 290atw.. think he had a wog cooler, pod filter and a full exhaust..

mate I hope injectors were part of that deal :hiall:

Mate. my suggestion, give the sites advertisers a call and discuss your needs and they should give you an idea on costs etc.

on the 3 available slots people will generally have

1/ Big gun tune ( also daily driver LOL)

2/ 95 Ron tune when you can't get the good juice

3/ Valet tune so the Chimps at Fraud don't flog the fark out of your car.

of course the tuner can set up the slots however you want, depending on mods race fuel whatever/

that's why I suggest you talk to people who have the runs on the board with these cars.

Hope this helps

My car made 184rwkw's stock.. With a K&N and tune only made 230rwkw's. You also have a hi-flow cat so that should get you more power too and its a manual.. Seems pretty pricy to me mate, what your after could be done for around $1000 from a site sponsor..

Depending on your CAT (size, brand etc...) your exhaust should now be good for 300rwkw's.. You've taken the biggest restriction in the exhaust out.. IMO get some injectors to go with the tune.. Should see around 270+rwkw's

$1,200 is a good price for Flasher & custom tune, but for a Flasher loaded with generic tunes that price = FAIL.

TBH he dosn't really sound like he knows what he's on about, there are loads of restrictions to overcome before the standard cat-back exhaust becomes too restrictive ... 230-240 rwkw would not even require an aftermarket cat, let alone low-mid 300's for the rest of the system is good for...

A custom tune on a BA can see mid 200's, or even high 200's in a BF...

I agree with Goaty go and speak to one of the site sponsors who specialise in modifying these cars mate :stirthepot:

Buf: Nahh never said anything about injectors so I guess its not part of the deal. That 3 stage setup is pretty much what I want but the was we were talking it sounded like it's only 1 main tune

Mika: That good 230atw with just a K&N.. that's what I'll be happy with considering I only have the t5 box and dont wanna be mucking around with broken boxes

Man-Gina (sorry I had to lol): I offered to supply him a flash tuner and he said it was fine considering it was brand new and not used,, so I dont think it will be generic.. and I'll give few of the site sponsors a look into.. I decided this tuner because it's close and local and I dont really have time to be leaving the car somewhere because its my daily.. but if its what it comes down to I will do it

Thanks guys

that's a very conservative power figure mate.

my 03 stocker made 250rwkw on 95 fuel. I think your better off speaking to one of the advertisers on this site from your local area. Sounds like you need a real professional to help out. These guys really know their stuff.

Are any of the advertisers from the northern suburbs?
