Thank you for puting up this info as I have just bought a 2008 FG turbo and am a true newbie when it comes to modding cars and ive found your list very helpfull. Are the things youve stated on your list in recommended order to do things or just a list of things one can do?

Vermillion,

The best thing to do is plan your mods based on your budget and power goals, then try to do it all at once. You need a retune for most changes once you get into modding the car.

Remember to look into suspension, brakes, trans coolers, oil filters etc and other things people may overlook when modding. Supporting mods will contribute to the safety and reliability of the car...

Best thing to do is pick a tuner, ideally a forum advertiser, and have a word with them :spoton:

Good luck

Hi couple of question's,

With the typhoon second snorkel , do you need to cut a hole in the air box ? or should you buy a typhoon air box with the snorkel ?

If I was to get a high flow CAT installed on my stock exhaust, can a shop re-use the CAT in a aftermarket system later down the track ?

With the flash tune , will the above mods be enough to get me a little more power? Is it best to get a tuner to supply the flash box, or would it be cheaper to buy online and can anyone give me a model/type that I should be using?

NVT says this should cost around $2000 with around 240kw , but isn't the stock engine output 240kw? or is that just at the flywheel?

Thanks :)

Re the F6 air snorkel... B series? Cut a hole using this:

Cats can come in a lot of aftermarket systems already, it would depend on the system you are buying. It could be re used but may require cutting/welding in by exhaust guy, might not be worth it if you get a system like mine that comes with 2 cats in it already (Manta 2x2.5").

Try to go cat, injectors and tune for a decent increase out of the gate, if you can't wait while gathering intercooler/dump/valve springs etc. The only flash box I'd recommend is the XCAL3, but speak to your tuner first as some will tune using systems that don't require the flash box. Have a read of some of the threads about "Sniper vs XCAL"

Yes we deal in rear wheel kilowatts (rwkw). Stock B series xr6t power is about 200rwkw say (varies a lot, 180 to 210ish - this can be car and especially dyno related as no 2 dynos are the same).

Esky,

Sometimes 2nd hand f6 airboxes pop up. It's not a hard job to cut the box and fit the snorkel and it's a nice, cheap way to open up the intake.

A high flow cat should be fine on a stock system and should open up the flow when it gets tuned. I wouldnt bother about transfering it down the track - Most full systems include a cat (I think...?)

Injectors and the fuel pump I'd say would limit you here. I think they max out at about 250-260rwkw on the B series.

A simple, low cost package would include injectors, fuel pump, cat and the Snorkel mod. Price wise, it's hard to say as you can source the parts second hand or go through a tuner.

Remember that the tuners run a business and that we need to support them. Things like a flash box I would just buy directly through them and most will do a box/custom tune package.

I'd assume the above 'kit' would net you high-ish 200's as a rwkw reading. Nothing to be sneezed at! It'll feel like a completely new car. Any more than this and you'll need to look into valve springs, IC packages, turbo mods etc.

As I said first off - Plan your power and plan your budget. Will save you money and time in the long run - Do it right the first time :spoton:

Did the K&N panel filter, xr8 snorkel and lower half box mod for increased air intake. I have a question though. I've got the trimmed edge of the mouth as tidy as I can with hobby knife and fine file but does any one know how I can reduce the white edge to make it look tidier (a bit fussy I know!). Not sure how you'd apply it evenly though, I can only think of lighters and soldering irons, neither of which strike me as suitable!
