I have driven a total of four turbo 6's - all manuals ranging from new to 25000km- and it seems that the one that I actually own is a bit of a lemon.I'll start from the least worrying to the most worrying. My car is three weeks/800km old.

1.Steering wheel is off centre by a good 10 degrees, blind freddie after ten beers could have put it on straighter. 2.Momo gearknob scratched, maybe the 1st day apprentice put it on using Stillsons. The gearknob also rattles severly. 3.Loud knock in the rear after going over a speed humps/bumps in road. 4.Reverse gear grinds like the proverbial, as if diff gearing isn't matched.I would say that this may be due to exessive play in the driveline.5.Manual gearbox 'whines' as if it has straight cut gears, especially 2nd and 3rd. I have to turn the stereo up so that it doesn't give me the sh*ts. The car goes fast, but at the moment I don't like driving it. It's going to the dealer tomorrow, see how we go.

Incedentally, the best one that I have driven is the company xr6t with 25000km,2002 build. Has had minimal problems and it absolutely goes like a rocket - company cars always go faster! It also gets parked in various carparks on the job and hasn't got a scratch on it.Maybe I should swap.

You have just got to put your faith in your Dealer and get it all repaired under warranty.

Unfortunately mate it appears you may have got a "Friday Arvo Build". If you read the posts on this site you can see your not alone with problems. I sometimes wish I waited for the series11, the one you get after they have ironed out out the bugs from the first series. Imagine how long the wait would have to be then though ??????

 Went back to the dealer and they fixed the following..

1.Gearknob scratches - fixed

2.Gearknob rattles - fixed.

3.Reverse gear grinding-they'll check at 3000km

4.3rd and 2nd gear 'whining' - noticeable by mechanic after I had told him that I have driven 4 xrt6's-(manuals)-he will monitor.

5. My dealer can't perform a basic wheel alignment because I have 18" wheels - my steering wheel was not centred - they sent me down to Tyremart, whose equipment (I feel) is sub-standard.Wheel alignment was performed straight away, but only halved the problem. Now is off-centre by about 5 degrees.

Bugger!

There seems to be a huge difference in quality between these cars.

Either a car is plauged by a multitude of problems...a lemon...a Fri arvo car.

Or, the car is a sweet dream...a Mon morn build.

I hope all your probs get ironed out XR6TR. Be persistant with the dealer. Bug the sh*t out of him 24/7 until the T is as it should be...good luck!

Its a pity this sort of crap is starting to let down an otherwise excellent car, shows Aussie manufacturers have a way's to to when it comes to quality control, Expensive Daewoo included, a friends vy gen3 ss just had an engine rebuild after 15,000k's he's not happy!!! After 15,300k's I've had discs machined once heat shield rattle, and steering rack regreased, all fixed and everything else perfect. This thing is still ahead of anything in its class and price range, this crap just annoys the crap out of us all!!

Sorry to hear about your problems mate. Re the knock in the back, this may sound silly but check the spare is properly secured. The first XRT I test drove did this and the spare wasn't secured properly. Good luck with it all!!
