hey guys im in the market for a BA XR6turbo, and ive heard the 4sp doesnt quiet handle alot of power through it. Would it be ok with say 250-300rwkw? If not, what would it cost to strengthen it up a little? Or would the 5sp or 6sp man be a better option for the extra power. Ultimately I would want the BF 06/06 turbo with the 6sp auto but they are fetching still around 20k min+. So if im gettin the BA whats my best option... been dwelling on this for weeks?

cheers guys all comments welcome

To Be truthful mate you really want either a 6 speed auto or a 6 speed manual. Stay away from the 4 and 5 speed boxes... They're expensive to rebuild and strengthen, and they will casue you all kinds of problems...

4 and 5 speed boxes may or may not run 250-300rwkw - they're very hit and miss...

Better off getting it right in the first place with a 6 spd man or auto box.

Best option? BA MK II with 6 speed manual.

All the best mate,

Dan

thanks for the reply mate, I was under the impression that the 5sp manual was ok if you put a HD clutch?? but if you say 6 sp man or auto ill keep that in mind, its just theres a 5 sp man one I was lookin at that's all

as said above, steer clear of the 5 speed. they are a T5 box, weak as buggery. Putting in a HD clutch will be worse for it as there will be more load on the gearbox.

Get either a T56 6 Speed manual (released in the BAMKII) or get a 6 speed auto.

Save that little bit more and get the good stuff to start off with :)

these guys have pretty much said it bud... Just have a look through the forum at the stories about rebuilds etc.. All are 4 spd auto or 5 spd manual. Your lucky as all the ground work with mods etc and failures have been found out already with the BA/BF's. look through the sub-forums on what interests you and you will find a lot of stories/ information/ do's / donts..

you dont see any stories of 5 speeds being rebuilt!! when (not if) they break its replaced with a T56 (6 speed manual) and will set you back about $6k+

do yourself a favour spend a little extra now and get a 6speed and save yourself the headache later ..

The BA 4spd auto in standard form arnt the best, if your not prepared to spend the money to repair/re-build or strengthening it later on I would stay clear and go for a 6spd.

This is all in experience- bit the bullet, now have a C9 3 Speed and love it. Like the others said theres alot of stories and discussions on the forum about this subject, just give these a read and im sure it will help you make your mind up!!

Best of luck,

Rob-T6XR.
