G'day,

Only a few months to go and I'll be ready to buy myself a FG XR6T, however, I'm questioning whether it's worth it, or waiting another 6 months and buying an F6..

This thread is going to get split into two parts, if both questions can be answered, I would be greatly appreciated as I'm stuck in knowing the techy-side of a turbo (or any performance car, for that matter).

So firstly,

FG XR6T or FG F6?

Which one of these absolutely crazy turbo cars would be better bang for buck? I love the look of the F6 (who doesn't), but the XR6T seems dramatically cheaper, and that extra $20k can be used for mods or whatever else. However, if FPV parts wanted to be fitted on a Falcon, how possible is this? For example, getting and fitting the FPV's start button, dash board (so you can see boost pressure, air to fuel ratio, etc), front bar, sideskirts, etc?

Is it worth investing in an FG F6 incase these parts aren't available for a Falcon VIN? What's the chance of getting genuine FPV parts?

Secondly,

Best bang for buck mods for XR6T

Since I live in a crappy ol' town, we've got only 1 (and only recently) performance shop, and to be completely honest, I've seen his work, and as someone who knows little about engines, I say he's done a very crappy job. So other than flying to get a car in a city, driving it back (which I will have to do anyway) AND then realizing that mods, parts, etc. need to be tuned / fitted, so needing to drive back, I'm thinking of getting a list down and prices (if possible) to get exactly what I need / want before heading back.

Can anyone tell me what may be the best way to go about getting (please also note I'm not buying this vehicle until mid-June):

- An Exhaust System with Extractors (I'm looking to get a quad rear exhaust; 2 exhausts on each side)

- Xcal or CAPA (or whatever else is better) Tune.

- Dump Pipe or something a little louder than the standard one? Anything worth looking at?

- Preferably any other engine modification that will enhance a stock FG XR6T without much buck (intercooler, blah blah blah, please list as I'm not aware of where to START for basic mods on a stock engine.)

And finally, FPV parts (Such as start button system, chip (I guess?), front bar, sideskirts, etc... )

How much am I looking at for these mods?

And if possible, can we restrict this to around $5k? (even if we have to take out the genuine FPV parts)

Sorry for the long post and thanks all for reading & any replies.

Cheers, and hope to be joining the 6T group soon!

Hey Mate and Welcome :drivingalong:

Ok, I'll try my best to help out with your questions.

Question 1)

The F6 is the best performance car Australia has ever produced. (I remember reading something like that lol...) The F6 will cost more to buy, but it will hold value far better. it is also the prestige of having an FPV as opposed to a Ford...

Yes, the 20K can be used for more mods, and not much $$$ will make a FGT KILL an F6. I am unsure of how the internals compare between a T and an F6 in the FG range, but I would assume they were similar. In the BA series, the F6 destroyed the T in every way... So, to get the same from a BA T would cost you a small fortune as it had weaker internals, weak gearboxes, crap valve springs etc...

You can definitely fit FPV parts to a Ford, but it's a little gay IMO. Some things are alright, but if you want an FPV - get an FPV...Genuine FPV parts will cost you a small fortune and are hard to get without a Chassis number like you said. There are 'copies' such as fibreglass bars and such, but they warp and can be a pain to fit. They are never as good....

Question 2)

I have very little idea of how much FG parts and mods cost to be truthful with you... But if I base it on BF/BA Figures, you could get a Rough Idea...

Exhaust - Something like an APS or X-FORCE would be really good. Should set you back a little under $2,000 to get installed and bought. That's stainless and with twin outlets. The BF Stainless cost $1600 with one outlet, so I should Imagine the FG shouldn't be too much more...

CAPA Tune - Bout $800 for a custom Tune and $600 for a box I think. CAPA III is out, and there's a bit of faffing around with Tunings and such atm...

Dump - Will Be included in the X-FORCE exhaust.

Other Mods? Based on a BF - Maybe a decent intercooler kit - $1,000 Process West/Rap1d Kit's are awesome from what I've heard. Bigger injectors are a must as well. 60lb or larger should be about $600+ Installed.

That's $5,000 Spot on. Without Any FPV parts. All I can say is check ebay often and they have all sorts of parts for cheap. Also check out our for sale section.

Mate, I hope my remblings made some sense. Good luck and once again WELCOME!

Cheers,

Dan

Cheers dude, they all made sense!

Yeah, I understand about the F6 v 6T part, but the issue is that it IS $20k more, and well over my budget - 6 months saving may not even happen since I've already been putting money away for 9 months (hard to hold out, I can assure you!).

Thanks for the price list, it's exactly what I was after - I don't want to go to a performance shop and get ripped off because I don't know what I'm after or know what it does; this info helps dramatically.

Anyone else's opinion on CAPA tunes? I heard there were better ones out now?

Do some reading throughout the Forum mate, this place is a wealth of information!

The flash tuner (what CAPA originally brought in) has been upgraded from Xcal1>Xcal2 and now Xcal3. All three of them can hold three seperate tunes for your car, however the newer versions give you some user adjustability and error code clearing abilities.

There are other options for tuning out there now like Sniper and VCM Suite, however I would say the majority of tuners are using the Xcals and Advantage software as they have had plenty of experience with it.

In my opinion, as far as bang for buck is concerned it's hard to ignore the G6E Turbo. Abit of a sleeper in looks, well equipped and packs a monster punch!

BTW, welcome.

Thanks for the welcomes and ongoing information.

Definitely having a look around the forums, just not too sure what I'm really reading yet!

Can anyone sort of list (or tell me where to find a good list) of engine specifications that are a good source of KW's? As in, what's the most basic stuff to upgrade first and foremost (not the mention the cheapest).

Ah, Xcal was the one I was speaking about also - I will look into that! Thanks senna_T.

thorxr6t, the G6E Turbo's look very slick )in terms of headlights and spoiler), but I'm not too keen on the lower front bar, and the additional features don't seem to spark my interest as much.

I am, however, looking to see if anyone has ever done, or heard of being able to do, mod an XR6T (unless it's actually standard) to get a few features from the FPV, such as the dash board's air to fuel ratio and boost bars? And what about the FPV rev limiter sound (as in, the beeping when you get the red line)?

Cheers again for your answers!

How much money do you plan on spending on the car and how much do you plan on spending on mods?

These are the two fundamental questions that need to be answered before you decide on anything.

If you go with an XR6T and want wank factor from the F6, have a look at djkice's car.

There isn't an air fuel ratio gauge in the F6 dash, it's just boost pressure and oil pressure.

The first and cheapest upgrade you can do, if you buy the XR6T is replace the lower airbox section and snorkel with the XR8 version.

It's worth 11rwkW on their own.

Heaps of people have modded the new FG.

Just have to look around the forum and you'll find a few.

I saw djkice's car in a previous thread - my question is how he got the interior mods without a VIN? And he seems to have what I'm after, the gauges and start button (though, does he have the beeping noise happening?)

Is there a thread specifically to his car? I couldn't find one.

He hasn't done a thread for his car that I know of.

I don't think you can get the shift alert from the FPV into the XR6T.

I read something about it on this forum a while back but can't remember why.

You don't need a VIN number for ebay mate. :spoton:

My first two questions from the previous post remain unanswered.......

My budget is a bit up in the air at the moment - if I can total a good outcome on the RWKW mods and the car itself, then I'm willing to split around $10,000 all up. I guess it just depends, as not everything has to be done right away; $5000 is my budget for the first lot of mods, etc.
