60k Service For Ba Mkii Xr6t - What Needs To Be Done?

G'day,

My car is a stock standard XR6 Turbo (BA MkII with 05 plates). No performance mods (that I'm aware of anyway..) and its now 5K overdue for its 60000km service. Until now, I've blindly just returned it to the ford dealer I bought it from for its service, but after getting a "quote" for the service from Ford, am inclined to shop around.

They quoted $220 for the service, which I agreed to, booked it in and hung up. 2 mins later, I got a call back saying they "forgot it was a turbo", and the price went up to $450, due to some valve being adjusted or something (involving an additional "2.75 hours labour"). As you've probably picked up by now, I'm not a mechanic's arsehole.

Car is out of warranty these days, so I guess I'm not so hung up on the handbook side of things, but would like to get it done by someone who knows what they're doing. Can someone help me with what sorts of questions to ask the mechanic (ie, I've got the "my car needs its 60000km service done" bit, but is there anything in particular to the turbo side of things I should be asking?

Can anyone recommend a mechanic in coo-ee of Gladstone (Central Qld) for this sort of work?

Cheers,

Brett

Family have always used Gary Lenz Mechanical, out on Hanson Rd I think they are.

Not sure on their familiarity with these things but anyone worth their salt won’t have an issue with logbook servicing.

Price goes up because apparently they re-torque the head bolts and turbo flange bolts... I say apparently because I know that a mechanice cannot service a car, re-torque bolts and fit new rear brakes hoses in 1.5hrs properly.

Next time book it in as an XR6, dont mention its a turbo and they probably wont pick up on it either.

I just got mine done a week or so ago, and this is what they did:

Check out ecu

Check intake and exhaust bolts for tightness

check all fluid levels

inspect drive belt

check wiring for security

check battery

check engine compartment hoses for leaks and sh*t

check exhaust system for security and leaks

check under car for leaks

check suspension and steering components

check prop shaft

check brake system

check outer body for corrosion

check hood and latch operation

check wheel nuts

check prake pedal hight and hand brake

check lights, wiper and washers

PARTS USED:

washer solution sachet

helix plus premium oil

fuel system flush

engine flush

*check for clunking in rear as advised*

centre diff bush & brake lines require replacement (under warranty) all that cost $252 plus I got my fuel injectors cleaned and power steering flushed that brought it up to $505 through sunshine ford.

All that work on hte car really made it run better :)

hope it helps,
