you don't know the full story but thanks for your input. much appreciated as always.

I do have serious health problems going on but trying to keep myself occupied with car mods to keep my mind off things. But it mustn't be that bad if your cracking jokes about it right?

The FG turbo is a nasty peace of gear.

The compressor wheel is a T04B/T04S compressor wheel. In its full trim it is known as a T04B 60-1.

In the smaller trims it's known as a T04S compressor wheel.

I haven't taken the verniers to the inducer size but of the eye it looks to be a 48 trim. Which is the same comp wheel as the Garrett GT2540R. The HKS GT2540R has a 46 trim comp wheel.

I do not know why Garrett Australia made this turbo. Maybe they had lots of the GT35R turbine's and T04S comp wheel's in stock and took the opportunity to unload them.

There are so many better options they could have taken and achieved better results. I.e. they could have used a smaller trim version of the GT35R compressor wheel and retained the GT35R turbine, They could of used a GT3076R. The GT3076R would spool up heaps quicker and make more power than the FG Turbocharger.

Best bolt on upgrade options would be to get a BA, BF turbo or to have you FG turbo hiflowed.

Current FG hiflow options would be a GT3540R compressor wheel, 61mm inducer, 82mm major, 56 trim. This would make it the same as a standard BA, BF turbocharger. Going to the .70 A/R comp cover would be a good upgrade at the same time.

Or you could go to the T04Z/T04R compressor wheel, 66.7mm inducer, 84mm major, 63 trim. Again the .70 A/R comp cover would be a good idea. Also recommend porting and maybe a bigger wastegate flap.

The porting is important. It's not just the size of the valve. The angle the exhaust gases come to the flap can be greatly improved with good wastegate porting.

Yeah it is quite nasty they have chucked that small wheel on the front... measured as 51.2mm/71.0mm wheel liked you said comes off a greater smaller turbo which you mentioned(and by looking at graphs doesn't even match our engine capacity)..... I guess it would struggle to use full effect of the rear turbine..

I have have decided to go for the hi-flow 57mm / 76.2mm comp wheel which is off the GT3076R. This should allow me to reach my goal power level and retain the quick spool.

I have already established the different options available and have posted this but due to "stand-over" tactics I was forced to remove my post which included specifications of my custom turbo setup which I wanted... as certain few claimed that it was "theirs"

Now that you have posted I guess there cannot be harm in discussing it, and I don't see how anyone could take ownership of a turbo wheel/setup and call it a "custom" wheel when it comes off another Garrett turbo...

The only help anyone was willing to give was a turbo front section swap over which cost almost double, and in one case triple the cost which I am getting it for now.

Are you sure the FG turbo compressor wheel has a 71mm major?

If so I may have been a bit hasty to call what T04B comp wheel it is. I based my comments on an off the eye inspection from a photo. I have not measured the wheel. If it is the wheel I have stated it will have a 76mm major. Either way it is still poo.

If you want my advice for what you are trying to achieve.

Try getting your turbo built with a 50 trim version of the GT3582R compressor wheel. The 50 trim compressor wheel is from the GT4082. This will work allot better than the GT3076R comp wheel on the GT35R turbine.

The combination I have given you will spool up just as fast but will make more power, or you can make the same power you are after with less boost.

my bad it is a 76 major..

I am getting the one I desire and the one in there mixed up..

nothing wrong with it for stock power... but for enthusiasts its just another hurdle which costs some more $$$

It does it's job well?

Just because it doesn't do what you want it too doesn't mean it's a crap turbo.

Yep, I'm going to come out and say flat out it's a "crap turbo". :pooh:

Huge mismatch of compressor and turbine.

It's a crap turbo because there are many other options that will outperform it in its factory application.

A 56 trim GT3071R with 1.06 A/R exhaust housing and bigger wastegate would have doon the job fantastic. Boost response would be ridiculously fast.

Even the GT3076R would have been a better choice for the factory application.

Above are just a couple of off the shelf options that could have been used not even considering building custom trim turbos for that specific application.
