Pioneer motoring journalist Peter Wherrett passed away today at 72 after a battle with cancer.

The Australian motoring fraternity owes a lot to Peter, he was one of the first motoring writers to have a regular column in a major Sydney newspaper, was the first to have a dedicated motoring TV show (Torque), competed at Bathurst on several occasions and was a respected advanced driver trainer.

and not to forget the Peter Wherret Special Sigma. I used to love that show(Torque) when I was younger and was disappointed when it ended.

Geez TW you must be of a similar vintage, you old bastard. Torque was a great show in it's day and Wherret had a great and often dry humoured presentation style.

A far cry from that sh*t that Glen Ridge and the Car Show trundled out on channel 9 .

Bloke couldn't drive a greasy stick up a dead cops arse :bliss:

I used to watch that show, it was a tad esoteric, I suppose at the time we may or may not have been ready for the subtle nuance of the driving experience Peter tried to convey.

I used to wonder why he had no eye brows too, but that became apparent when it was revealed he liked to spend quality time in the dress up box..

So to speak..

As a young bloke in the 70s and crazy about cars I loved the TV show he had.

It was very informative and I learnt alot about advanced driving techniques.

My dad had a couple of hundrfed acres of property south of Brisbane and as a young boy I drove on padocks and honed my driving techniques using things Peter Wherret talked about.

Sad to see him pass so young. Someone the same age as my dad.

Cheers Paul
