The old engine has been sent back to Ford engineering where it will be fully stripped down and evaluated. They are going to let me know what caused the blow up.

At this stage they have suggested a faulty piston casting as the most probable cause.

No worries mate. At least you have her back in better order :wtf: .

I thought the T engines were basically hand built (someone correct me if I'm wrong) so you would have thought a bad piston cast would have been picked up.

You would think so...but then you'd think lots of things would be obvious to Ford. The beancounters usually win over proper QA though.

come on tab you should know better, if the piston had a casting fault you would never see it with the naked eye.Ford fitted half a piston is that what your trying to say.

Correct there. Unless the piston had a noticable defect that could be seen then there is no way a "weak" casting would be picked up unless it sh*ts itself like what happened to mine.

At the end of the day if it is a piston fault then you can expect Ford to be claiming all cost from the piston supplier (ACL/Mahle)

They go down the line just like any other engine, except the turbo is fitted after it has been hot tested with a standard NA exhaust manifold on it.

Well today I managed to knock a couple of hundred Kms up on the new engine and I must say it seems all good so far, the addition of the XR8inlet/lower airbox seems to have added a few extra Kw's.

Heres a few more pics taken this morning:
