Managed to get in 6 passes last night, had fun and only slightly dropped my best time of 13.2@107mph need lots more practice and be not so eager to leave tree....red lighted 3 times!! all good, car is VERY consistent...this is the second time I have raced the car and it runs the same mph and times just about every pass....just need to perfect my reaction times...

Cheers Andrew

Well, that was a fun night...

I managed to get six passes in as well and in the process popped the Ute's cherry...

Its a BF2 manual and my best run for the night was 13.5 on the SP3000's. 4 out of the 6 runs I got 111 mph and a 60 footer of 2.6 seconds. So, the lessons learnt were:

1- I can't get off the line

2- Xtreme's dyno is pretty accurate at 280 rwkws and

3 - Doesn't matter how many times people tell you to switch traction control off, you leave the bloody thing on and wonder why you can't do a proper skid

HeHe...yeah best 60ft for me was 2.2=sad but I think some diff gears would help that??

I had some bad axle tramp when I pulled 2nd on one of the passes ...I remembered this time to turn off DSC when putting some heat into tyres...and played around with changes trying at 4800,5000,5200, crossed the line in 4th manual shifting...(dyno graph shows making peak power around 5-5200)

Plums, going down again next week to watch my mates chevy ute get a few passes in (it does 10's!!) so maybe catch up with a few ppl then...

Cheers

Hey Andrew, my input here if ya interested, theres a fair bit left in your launch & your MPH seems a little low.

I found shifting at over 5500 was best. I always ran at over 110 MPH when doing so. I guess it's the way Simon tunes these things - his tunes seem to hold power until quite hight in the rev-range, so when shifting early, I always ran slower.

Launching. I worked to find a happy medium of stall on the brakes. Stalling up, too much throttle & not enough brake = you creep forward and stuff up the run. Too much throttle & too much brake = wheelspin, you creep forward and stuff up the run. Find a happy spot between both throttle & brake pressure that allows you to get off the line with some thrust & no wheelspin. IMO the 2nd-to-1st launch technique is a waste of time on street tyres, as you can get more than enought boost off the line stalling in first gear to cream the tyres through 1st & 2nd. It tooke some practice, but eventually I was able to grab some 1.9 second 60 footers on my POS "Durun" Kmart specials.

On my fastest runs, I never just pinned the throttle after the initiail launch (still well within the first 60' here), I again found a happy spot that saw me get to the top of first gear with no wheelspin. Best way to launch the ZF on street tyres IMO is go with a hard, 1/3-1/2 (2,000+ RPM) throttle stall, ditch the brake in you're own good time (unless your racing in DYO format here) then after you have moved off the line, initally hold the throttle in the launch position for the first few metres then in a smooth, co-ordinated movement, mash it into the firewall and hold for the next 12.5-12.8 seconds. Shift into second at 5500 RPM, then grab third & fourth at 5800 or so and see how that goes. Or even try using auto mode, I ran my best time in manual mode, but only after considerable practice, I still went 12.4 @ 113 in full auto mode.

I think your car has a good 12 in it mate, see what you can snag shifting a little higher & refining that launch. Good luck & congrats on running the times you have achieved so far

definatly should have a 12 in it considering you both have tune only's from the same tuner!

also dont worry about your reaction times, the time doesn't start until you move away from the line. just make sure you dont creep over it!

Thx Kael for advice mate its much appreciated, and anyone else who cares to give advice...

As I have a tune only T (will soon be going to next stage after taking 12 months to save up coin) I dont expect it to be super quick as I only asked Simon for a mild tune within stock capabilities to begin with, also being a novice at this and still learning this particular car....I'm sure that an experienced driver would get a better time out of it for sure...but I dont really care to be honest,if I end up with a car that can do low 12's after my next and more than likely final round of mods I will be very happy....and that's what counts hey!!!

Kael,I was changing at lower rpm as I thought I would be good to keep it under load with the turbo as its making peak power at around 5000rpm,(if my thinking is wrong guys let me know) also stalling it up.....factory converters dont stall up do they?? so all your doing is putting undue pressure on it??? please comment on that anyone...next time I end up going down I will try to wind it out more in 1st...

Do F6 sedans with ZF 6spd have a different diff gear ratio than XR6T's???

Thx for the input...cheers

Yeah mate, factory converters do stall up, they cannot be removed & replaced with a high-stall like the BTR & C-Series boxes, but once tuned, you can get a some decent RPM into them, especially when you stall up in 2nd gear then shift back to 1st for the launch :spoton:

(^Useless on street tyres though IMO)

I thought the same as you with regards to the turbo & load, but our cars are much the same & I could only run ~109 MPH & high 12's from memory holding gears to ~5,000RPM or so, which is about where you are.

The ZF gearing & diff ratio's are the same between the BF XR6T & F6.

Next time out, have a run in performance auto mode, and leave the line with some thrust (see my last post ) ans see what time & MPH you can snag
