is there no way to get it upgraded when getting the car tuned? What is he fix? tightening the bolts and welding them in?

The factory flex plate is quite thin, Atomic do a thicker one which helps, or you can weld your own plate in to reinforce the factory one. Pretty sure it's not recommended to use the same flex plate, I think its gotta be balanced or something.

Flex plate sort of makes me think that it should be flexible. Hence the reason why it is thin.

But I am pretty sure that is completely wrong.

As asked by M1rkz, what is the purpose of the flx plate in the Auto?

I know that the manual gear box does not have this black magic attachment.

For the uneducated, whats a flex plate and what does it do ?

The flex plate (or drive plate if you are that way inclined) connects the cranks shaft to the torque converter in an automatic car. It is literally a round plate with series of holes in the centre to accommodate the crank shaft bolts and a row of outer bolt holes to secure it to the torque converter.

It is called a flex plate as it is designed to flex. The flex is required to absorb crank endfloat and in more extreme cases torque converter ballooning (hi stall torque converters can grown due to internal hydraulic pressure)

As for the flex plate coming loose issue when you put it back in again give the bolts a little tack with the welder on the edge to stop them coming out again or get two flex plates and cut the centre out of one and use it to double the thickness where the crank bolts are. Me and my mates have had so many issues with holding them in gone through about 5 flex plates and this is what happened to one of the last ones that came loose at a track day
