Off topic again, and if you don't mind me asking, what sort of deal did the T series give you?

l was very happy with the TS and intended to keep it a lot longer than we did. Blame the XR6T for that!

It was a very classy car, still one of my favourite looking cars ever (l have posted a photo in the image gallery if your interested)

Didnt go as hard as l thought it should with 220kw. The turbo is a LOT stronger and feels significantly faster, partially because its a manual as opposed to an auto, but also because l reckon we are getting a lot more than 240kw out of these cars. Handling was brilliant, but gosh it was firm, much firmer than the XR6T. It was an understated car and l really liked that.

Resale was deplorable. l would be very reluctant to buy a new GT because l dont think the name alone will be enough to save it from 50% + depreciation over 3 years either. An FPV T6 would possibly also have this problem, and imagine what insurance would cost, but it would be soooo tempting.

There will be a number of reasons why depreciation of the Gt will be better than that of the T series. Unfortunately series one was extremely overpriced. At the end of the day it was a 220 and a poor one at that, the same as an Exec Expensive Daewoo for 30k. Don't know what you paid for yours but I remembered get a quote for 80k drive away.

With the GT, you are getting an understated power figure of around the GTS level for 65k. In the market, you are going to have to see a lot of cars depreciate before it is possible to get back to 50% over 3 years and that is from all manufacturers because a 300 figure is still rare. The whole second hand market is going to have to crash for the GT to lose anywhere near that.

One could argue that resale on the FPV turbo will be higher again than that of the GT, but I really expect the whole range to drastically improve. The power v price as nearly guaranteed that

We bought our TS when it was a little over a year old for just over $50K, so that gives you some idea of the initial depreciation. They were overpriced as you say. l pity the people who went out and bought these for near retail as no doubt some diehard Ford fans did.

The resale on the GT will depend on a lot of factors over the next few years, engine output of future models from both Ford and Expensive Daewoo being one consideration. Expensive Daewoo have a new alloy twin cam V6 coming late this year or next and l believe and its gotta be a laydown misere that they will do a turbo. Which then means we will see a HSV version and 300kw no problem. So then FPV come and and do a version of the T6 if they havent already and the power race continues. It does have to stop somewhere though, who knows where

Expensive Daewoo also are going to start making the Gen 4 locally sometime in the next couple of years, talk of a 6lt plus version. So then FPV have to extract more form the boss and before too long they start upping engine output and undermining resale on GT's because the lesser models will have caught up again. Ford did this several times to owners of T series and XR8 models throughout the run of the AU, and l reckon it will happen again to a lesser extent when Holdens new engines come out. Especially if the BA is giving the Late model camira some real competeion.

The first TE50 in 1999 had a 200kw engine and cost mid 50's, wonder what they are worth now???

From looking at this sort of pricing the normal is around 50% loss. :(

l think its possibly even more than that as most dealers we spoke to didnt even want to trade our TS, but were just going to wholesale it. Anything AU has strong smell of sh*te to it as far as dealers seem to be concerned. :( Thankfully the dealer we bought the TS from originally did the right thing by us. None of the others were remotely interested, in fact several of the FTE dealers didnt even have an FTE in stock. They were making sure they didnt get caught with their pants down when the BA came out.

l reckon we are going to see a power war break out between Ford and Expensive Daewoo in the next couple of years now that Ford have some decent engines and have taken it back upto Holden. Expensive Daewoo have some new 'non stone age' engines in the pipeline. 300kw wont be anything special in 3 years time.

Where will that leave the GT's resale in 3 years time?
