You guessed it, my new turbo (minus the polished cover. and it's not an actual pic of my turbo, but it's on the way). It's a Bullseye Power S380 which is a custom Borg Warner unit. Yep, a Borg Warner turbo. This thing is going to be nuts if what I've been reading on the US forums is true. It out powers the Precision/Garrett 4276 for the same boost, makes more peak power and does it while spooling as quickly and even a little faster. Yes it is a bigger turbo than the Precision 4276 so it should make more power however it spools as good and is cheaper to buy and rebuild. It is a thrust bearing unit that is oil cooled. No ball bearings and no water cooling. Yes, it is more important to cool the sucker down after getting it hot. But that will be a small trade off when you see what it can do.The below pic shows the S380 out doing the Precision/Garrett double ball bearing 4276 for power and torque at equivalent boost. Test 14psi on pump fuel which I believe is 95 octane. S380 made 542rwkw where the 4276 made 492rwkw. Torque is up as well with the S380 by about 44Nm (this is the US, units on are ft/lb). Ok, it's a bigger turbo but look at where and how that power is made. Now this monster made 1170rwhp, that's 873rwkw, at 30psi on C16. Sure, we aren;t going to make that sort of power with 1 litre less but it shows what the turbo is capable of.The proof will be in the pudding so I can't wait to use this bad boy. It is a big turbo physically but it spools as fast as a smaller ball bearing turbo. Should be here in about 2 weeks. If there is one thing the Americans do very well it's customer service and satisfaction. Too many businesses here have the mentality that they are doing you a favour when you're the one handing over the moolah. Not so in the USA. Thanks Dan and Bullseye Powergood stuff stef, cant wait until it starts going together.engine / power aside what else do you intend to do with the car?Basically:Daily driver600+rwkw dyno queen9 sec quarterMoney is not endless so I will have to recover after blowing 20 odd k building the motor and supporting hardware. Once I pull the dyno numbers, I will start looking at the driveline, with the trans being the first thing. I am already investigating possibilities and at the moment, a GM 4l60/65e is a strong candidate for a drag trans. Maybe middle of June to have it in and tuned. Doing things myself is a little slower. Tuning will probably take a week to get right. Maybe more. And that is just for the phase 1 "dyno queen" goal. You mean the drive from the workshop to home with a running in tune You're right though. First 2000km or so will not have a massive tune in it. I'll be driving around like a mad man for the first couple of weeks getting those rings seated nicely.Good stuff mate... but I reckon you'll want a bigger turboHey Chris I took your recommendation and ran with it mate. Hope you don't mind The new turbo has arrived: This thing has a fairly large compressor and weights about 17kg. Even though it's a decent size, it is supposed to spool as quick and even a tad quicker than the Precision 4276. We'll see just how quickly it does spool in the next couple of months.
