Correct... Well, kinda. I dont know about it being easy to earn over $3k.. But I'm picking up what you're putting down... I have no life, however I do live in a pretty f*cking awesome camp, with some pretty f*cking awesome people. We play cricket or footy once or twice and week and enjoy a beer after work. Its not too bad. However, its not quite like working/living in the big smoke. But, I'm up here for a short time, to make some money and start a good life for myself. Short-Medium term Sacrifice FTW.

I work in the mineing industry ot in a camp though renting a house which is surrounded by *natives* and cost $750 a week which is cheap as for the are loverly :@

Wow, I'm surprised at the amount of people over $2k/week. So these people are earning $3000 per week before tax or $156,000pa!!!

It is scary to think how much you need to bring home to live the life you want to lead these days.

When you have to pay school fees for the kids it works out that $1000.00 Gross income a week which is $800.00 net is needed to cover our fees alone.Plus have approx. $7000.00 mth. on different mortgages on properties etc. then you have to run a household and pay all the other bills that come in.Plus, essentials like mods the ford. Sometime you feel like getting off the treadmill and go live a simple life on a desert island somewhere. As for wage details, it varies as I only use my wage to pay any loans for investments etc. and pay my wife a wage which covers day to day expenses.

my income varies so much. I'm a sparky, been out on my own for 2 years now.

some weeks if its slow I'll earn less than $1000 (but obviously working SFA hours).

most I earned in one week was $6000 (35 hours), $4500 of that was in two days on a quoted job (2 x 8 hour days).

on average its probably between $1500 and $2000.

yearly insurance/license fees/depreciation etc expenses are about $7000.

we have an 8 month old baby and my wife doesn't work, we have a mortgage which we were paying off very rapidly before the baby but now we aren't really going forward quiet as fast.

The problem with stats is - they are only based on what is reported. And I don't mean the black economy either!

Most people that make decent money (ie people that can afford OUR fees!), make it through companies or trusts. Their own personal taxable income never exceeds the 30% tax bracket (which is the same as the company tax rate, so any excess income is just shoved into a company).

In 2008 the 30% bracket has you earning $75k, in 2009 (financial year that is) it's $80k. You'll find this skews the stats significantly I suspect.

Very interesting to see the difference between the ABS and the Salary Centre numbers though!

Yes, what the government sees you earn and what you really earn are two very different things to most rich people!!!

Depends, I run my own business, so in a good week it can be over $6k, it averages out to a little over $2k a week. It's funny though, $6k seems like a lot of money to have until your running your own business and your running the risk that next week and the week after will be very light on in payments.
