XR6 Turbo power is lots more accessible than the old SV8 . . . and there's more of it. I've never met a kilowatt I didn't like . . . at least not when I'm behind the wheel. It's not much fun being a passenger when the driver is more interested in being a hero than alive.I understand that Ford started fitting Typhoon bottom ends to the BF and FG XR6's. What does this include? Stronger rods? cranks? The FG runs 10lbs boost. How much when it hits overboost?Ford said they will check out the transmission noise at the 3000k service and indicated they might be able to make some degree of improvement. This noise is ALL diff bushes?? Or does the noise come from other areas too? What does Ford to to reduce the noise?Ford lists the oil change interval as 15,000 kms' That sounds a bit much to me. I plan to drop it every 7500 kms. I've got some Shell Helix Ultra (5W 40) that I plan to use if it meets XR6T specs. Removing the centre muffler and fitting the XR8 air box - does that make a noticable improvement in power? Academic question. The car feels strong enough to me as it is. When I did my power runs before fitting the XR8 lower airbox and snorkel, we saw as high as nearly 13psi.Ford said they will check out the transmission noise at the 3000k service and indicated they might be able to make some degree of improvement. This will not meet the specs as if you consult your owners manual you will find you need to run a 15w/40 oil. That's if you want to keep your warranty.Removing the centre muffler and fitting the XR8 air box - does that make a noticable improvement in power? Academic question. The car feels strong enough to me as it is. When I fitted my lower airbox and snorkel I gained 11rwkW. Not sure about the exhaust although it does make more noise. There is a thread in the Exhaust section with film clips of someone who has the centre section of the FG XR6T removed.PAH Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/55687-fg-xr6-turbo-questions/#findComment-842215 Share on other sites
PAH Donating Members 361 Member For: 16y 3m 20d Gender: Male Posted 15/03/09 05:50 AM Author Share Posted 15/03/09 05:50 AM (edited) Thanks for the info,Ford lists 15W-40 engine oil. It's my understanding that the wider apart the two numbers, the greater the protection. 5W-40 engine oil is superior and the extract below explains why:A 5W-30 motor oil performs like a SAE 5 motor oil would perform at the cold temperature specified, but still has the SAE 30 viscosity at 210° F (100° C) which is engine operating temperature. This allows the engine to get quick oil flow when it is started cold verses dry running until lubricant either warms up sufficiently or is finally forced through the engine oil system. The advantages of a low W viscosity number is obvious. The quicker the oil flows cold, the less dry running. Less dry running means much less engine wear. http://www.upmpg.com/tech_articles/motoroil_viscosity/ With this in mind, I doubt that Ford would have a problem with me using 5W-40 engine oil, but I will check to make sure. It's not hard to see why Ford is able to specify a 15,000km service interval! The engine sump holds 7 litres! The article I quopte above was a bit of an eye opener. Maybe it explains why Mobil 1 is a bit more expensive. We were chatting about mods and he suggested it was a much better idea to start with the FPV turbo motor due to the lower tolerances in the Ford motor. bunna Donating Members 813 Member For: 18y 8m 14d Posted 18/03/09 10:30 AM Share Posted 18/03/09 10:30 AM why? It was only the former engine plant manager I guess. Maybe I got my wires crossed?
