Hi everyone

Would anyone tell me how much would it cost to get the oil leak fixed from the gear box. I think the seal has got busted and all the oil has drained out. I managed to park my car in the local ford dealership and will go there on Monday to get it fixed. Also what other potential problems should I expect now that the seal is broken. Would it have affected the transmission since I had to drive the car to the dealership for a fair distance with the oil leaking.

Its a 2003 BA model. Any suggestions on what other things I should get the dealership look into while am there with regards to the driveline.

Any tips much appreciated.

Thanks

Auto/manual? Leaking from the front or rear? If you give us as much info as possible we can try and help out a bit more...

Hi Senna_T

Its a Auto and the oil is leaking from the front...I think. It all started at the car park. I felt the car was taking too much power to even move. The revs was going so high but still the car moved like a old lady. I called the NRMA roadside assistance, the guy had a look and said that yep its a seal burst.

Hmmmm, ok, well there isn't really much more that you can do until the box comes out. If the box is low on oil nad you drove it for a while there could be damage resulting from over heating. The cars are fairly smart though and will go into limp mode if there is a major issue.

See what the boys at ford have to say about it and go from there

The dealership has not yet replied. I was just thinking, if the whole gear box needs to be changed, would this be a good time to upgade to a 6 speed transmission.

The ZF 6spd auto is a very expensive bit of gear mate, it retails somewhere around $8000 from Ford, so I probably wouldn't recommend it!

If however you are considering going to a 6spd Manual, get in touch with Mal Wood Automotive, they are a Forum sponsor and a Tremec Manual Gearbox specialist.

Well got my baby fixed yesterday. Phew...the tranny is a ok, but had to change the radiator, coolant tank, and coolant pipes. Oil got into these. Cost me $1200 but atleast its now all good. I am just a bit weary now since it has done over 100000km. What other things should I look into immediately. Also I have a few mods done, upgraded on intercooler, exhaust capa tuning. What other upgrades should I do to support these. I know I have to upgrade on fuel filter. Any suggestions much appreciated.
