Im looking at buying a XR6t, or swapping for my 302w XW Fairmont

What are some things to look for?

Good and bad points

Which is better BA or BF, l would prefer a Black or Yellow series 2 fully optioned, just for the fact that usually the first series always has some sort of issues

Whats the going price for the average XR6t, im seeing that there is a few below 20g and then there is a few for over 20g whats the difference between the 2 prices

I want to get as much info from owners before l make a decision.

Thankyou in advance

Den

Generally BF 06/06 onwards has a stronger engine and is a better car mated with the 6sp auto. Bigger brakes and some other features as well.

Not more then 30k with plenty of good options, even 27k seems to be the going price for a BF T.

Someone will come along shortly and write they've seen one for 20k. Always happens.

And dont forget to read the rest of the forums. Everything you could ask has been answered.

yeah I agree. If you can afford the BF or even BF2 it would be a better buy for the above mentioned reasons (gearbox, brakes). Steer clear of the early 4 speed auto's if you intend on modifying, having never owned one I can only go by what I read and according to the guys on here its a ticking time-bomb with anything higher than standard output. So 6 speed auto is the go, can also handle mods and power increases.

Manuals although clunky can handle big power with the addition of a new clutch. these were available from BA mk2 onwards..

I agree with the others, make sure you get heaps of options as that's whats gonna sell the car when you decide to sell in the future. Needs to be a bit different than all of the others out there.

Cheers good luck

I disagree, options might help but I think it comes down to a good price and having a clean example (low km, good condition inside and out etc..). A lot of the time I see options as extra bonuses I dont really need.

Thanks guys for you thoughts

So the 6 speed autos are a better unit than the manual, or is it depending on what has been done or intending to do.

Probably a little to much than I want to spend

I would for now just drive around and tow the dirt bike nothing realy major it would just be a weekend car

In regards to the autos did the BA series 1 & 2 and the BF series 1 get the 4 speed.

both the 6 speed boxes are pretty solid (ZF auto was bf onwards, 6 speed manual was BA mk2 onwards), I chose the auto because it is a really good box and its notably quicker than the manual. Test drive both and see what you think.

Yep - I agree with that. I sussed out a new FG XR6T that had the tech pack and 19" wheels. I wanted neither. I was happy to have them as freebies but not as extra cost items.

I found a car with an extra that I wanted (leather) and bought it.

The way the car has been cared for counts for heaps with sensible buyers. Unmarked condition. Not flogged to death at the drags. Not running almost double factory power levels.

Let's be realistic:

You WILL get BFI for around $20K

You WILL get a BFII for around $23K

For your "not more then $30K" you would get a BFI Typhoon (more like just under mid $30K).

There is a BF Typhoon for sale on here for $34K - has been for sale since January.

Mick's (Strik9) old Silver BFI Typhoon just went for $33K with 34,000 klms, Atomic bottom end, injectors, Nizpro Stage 2 (cooler, piping and plenum), X-Force, actuator, modified flapper, Bilstein shocks and lowered springs, Enkei mags, valve springs - I know, I went and test drove it and $33K was the asking price (I passed - not suited to my needs).

Sorry to say, the only people who think a BF T is worth $27K plus are those that currently own them!

Not trying to start a fight - I guarantee you I could get you a BF (MkI or MkII) with low klms in auto for under $25K, and find it in a day!

Cheers

Dan
