Fpv F6x Vs Mazda Cx-9 Luxury

Wife and I are looking to move to a 7-seater SUV/Soft Roader. We've been for a drive in both the Mazda CX-9 and the FPV F6X and we both like each of them for the ride/drive performance. Obviously the F6X has my tick for power. The sticking point at the moment is the 7-seater access and the ease with which the 3rd row seats can be put up. The CX-9 is very slick in this regard. Open the back, pull on a strap and up they come. The FPV (as with the Territory 3rd Row) is quite a lot more involved. First you need to put the 2nd row seat forward (which has to be done for ingress/egress anyway), then reach to the centre of the 3rd row seat (top) and pull the handle and lift. Then through to the back, you need to lift the floor storage flap and push the seat base forward.

Now I don't think that the 3rd row seats will be used a huge amount (we have 3 kids + their friends) and my wife believes my eldest will be relegated to the 3rd row at all times to reduce the in-fighting between him and his slightly younger sister. The CX-9 also allows for the 3rd seats to be put up one at a time, meaning if on of the 3rd row seats was up permanently, there would still be plenty of room in the back for school bags, groceries etc.

From reading reports on the CX-9 however, the middle seat in the 2nd row is very uncomfortable and narrow, and on long trips when the boot is full of luggage, this will come back to haunt us.

Anyway out there who wishes to wade in and provide any more fores/against for either car?

Cheers

Brendan

PS> Yes, obviously I do want the F6X, but I'm not the main driver.

A little birdie told me the Mazda is a complete gas guzzler, like there's a f*cken hole in the tank, however I can't see the F6X being any better, but if you buy a flashbox you could get a tuner to flash in an 'economy' tune with heaps of timing? That would keeps the L/100km down!

Where's Marcus? His missus has a CX-9

mate I have the cx7 and I am happy with performance and quality of the fininsh etc(and its 13.0-13.5 lt100km around town no freeway running ) ,my job is a racwa patrolman here in wa metro area

I have been to a few cx9,s only for running out of fuel haha :spoton: ,every one I spoke to said if they had it for a month before they bought it they would have walked right by it in the sales yard :nerd8: ,one guy traded a 4.8 litre patrol and was still getting worse econ in the cx9 :beerchug: 20litres per100km was about the norm

they all raved about the performance and overall car but all were unhappy with the econ ,my opinon is you cant have the size power etc without the pain of fuel econ, so doing a bit of home work before handing over 50k and being stuck with it for 3-5 years will go along way

cheers George :banned:

I'd go the F6X purely for the performance.. stick a nice set of 22-24's on there, dark tint and it will look sweet as..

We've just bought one (F6X) and should have it at home by the weekend. First trip planned is Brisbane to Forster at Easter, so I'll let you know how the fuel gets guzzled.

There are a lot of good deals around at the moment for F6X that dealers have in stock. We got ours for about $25K off.

They aren't making them anymore, and the new Territory is just a facelift, none of the FG gear - that pushed us over, the Territory Turbo Ghia is $66K, you should be looking at about $60K for an F6X.

cheers

Brother had this problem a few months back...

I test drove the CX9, Territory Turbo (not F6x), and the CX7...

My pic was the T, and im sure the F6x would be even better, however he went with the CX7... Wasn't bad either...

BUT NO WAY DID EITHER OF US LIKE THE 9, ITS JUST A SLUG AND DRIVES LIKE A TANK!

Go with the F6x, or check out the CX7...

:stickpoke:

Client of mine just did the same as well - sold his XR6T and got himself a CX7, liked the T but went with the CX7 also...

I have the Turbo Territory Ghia and it is a great car.

We never use the 7 seats as the back seats are large enough for 2 baby seats and an adult in the middle.

We have only used the 7 seater option once and like most cars with this option, any one over 5ft would go nuts after 20mins in the seats as they have no legroom.

This goes for all the big SUV's. To get more practical 7 seater, you need to supersize to a Landcruiser or Q7 Audi, as they have more length.

The TT is a great car with heaps of performance. If I was you I would get the Mk2 Turbo Ghia as it has the FG ICC which will give you really nice features like iPod and bluetooth intergration.

I have also heard the CX9 owners complaining about the economy. when my wife the leadfoot drives our TTG, we get 15lt/100km, when I drive it hits 19's, but this is all city driving. I drove from Sydney to the gold coast with a fully loaded car at 110-120km/h and managed 12's.
