4 Link And Coilovers In A Ute

4 work & play

Recommended Posts

I think drive in drive out just for 9" in around the $3.5k mark.

Does anyone know if a 4 link setup is legal on the streets. I dont think they are in WA.

I will be keeping an eye on this thread.

Unsure even on that figure... A properly setup 9" is north of $2.5k on it's own. It's not just a simple cut & shut job so their would be quite alot of hours involved to have it properly engineered/legal.

Helps to know someone who can/will do it at a reduced rate though :spoton:

You cant even get a strange centre complete for 2.5k let alone a complete diff, you guys must be talking junkyard conversions at those prices, beware, there is a world of 9" diffs and not all are created equal.

For instance I got a fabricated housing with 35 spline billet axles for $2300, no centre, no brakes, no 4 link brackets, it all adds up very fast and you still have to do the pretty large job of installing the 4 link brackets, buying rod ends and chromoly tube for the arms and track locator and then sorting out a tailshaft.

I would estimate around 6-7k in parts plus fitting for an unbreakable rear end.

Well thanks for all the feed back so far!

I probably have confused it a little by mentioning that there are LS1s with 9" 4 links. The 'ball park' would have been to use the factory diff etc. but by the sounds of it it is probably still a little on the cheap side.

A 9" would definately be the more desired option, especially if making big power. However, at this stage I'm only really aiming for around the 350KW give or take.

I'm more interested in being able to adjust the rear end for drift days etc, so in this case is a 4 link overkill anyway? I have looked at the new pedders extreme coilovers which have adjustable shocks for the rear. Additional to this however I would need to add a sway bar, tramp kit, reset springs again (I have bags in the rear atm) etc and going on the 'ball park' I would be half way to a 4 link, which seems more attractive. I would rather go straight to a 4 link set up if I may end up there eventually anyway!

So I guess this is why I have asked the question as I'm not an 'expert' and appreciate all the feed back from the people who know.........you guys! :spoton:

AFAIK, The are legal. Be prepared to move your petrol tankt to the tray though....

Another option would be the RRS style single leaf with torque road and coil over conversion

can just get a fuel cell custom made to fit in-between chasis rails like most 4 links

Well I'm bailing out on the idea atm.

The bags are coming out tomorrow and I'm getting all the leafs put back in with an added extra one to help stiffin the rear end a bit. I'll get it out on the track and then make adjustments as I need to ie. sway bars, tramp rods etc Will miss the bags though :idunno: cos it looks so good when its slammed!

It seems to do a 4 link properly is pretty exy and I'm not even sure now that it will suit what I'm after anyway after talking to another suspension shop. Money better spent elsewhere

Cheers for the feed back

Sean
