Cannibal Holocaust

Sounds like 70's/80's "Man From Deep River" vintage Italian horror.

I grew up on that stuff. The Italians perfected the low budget jungle cannibal/zombie genre. There were so many, I can't remember any outstanding details - but I do remember that some were so amateurish and trashy that for about 75% of the movie, they really did look like the real thing.

FWIW my favourites from that era are the Dario Argento classics Susperia, Deep Red and the Caesar Romero/Argento Dawn of the Dead (still awesome!). Reanimator and the first Evil Dead are also highly recommended
