Brake Upgrade - Advice On What To Get From Pbr ?

Hi all,

I am fortunate to have a father in law that works for PBR, so I can pretty much get anything I want from them.

I want to upgrade the brakes on my 2005 BA MkII XRT, what would be your suggestions for the best setup, keep in mind I do not want to spend a fortune.

You advice would be very helpful.

nothing from pbr bud lol

pitty he doesnt work for dba

most members go for dba 4000 slotted rotors and some good pads I.e bendix

I have and they work great :)

OK here are some suggestions

1- / BA serie FPV F6, GT, etc standard brakes (also known as Ford Premium and PBR aftermarket)

This is seriously well sorted powerful and light weight brake package. It is the Factory system.

It consists of

new calipers front only

slotted discs

new pads

(braided lines - aftermarket version only)

1.2/ A step up in heat tolerance and heat pumping capacity is to forgo the PBR discs and buy DBA discs

DBA 5000 front slotted (only). This is a 2 piece disc, lighter, better heat performance, cheaper to replace, the best there is short of ceramic.

DBA 4000 rear slotted (only) one piece disc

1.3/ Whilst the PBR pads are frankly amazing there are alternatives.

Ferodo Formula - more temperature linear than the PBR's - less impressive but possibly better

Ferodo DS2500 - more temperature sensitive, somewhat like the PBR's, not sure to what extent - higher ultimate grip

2. PBR also make some impressive brakes that will fit the XR6 Turbo.

At least one of the former members had a set fitted to his XR6T.

IIRC these were,

6 pot with an individual pad per pot on the front

4 pot with an individual pad per pot on the back.

Big discs, two piece front.

Possibly ZR-06 series brakes

Option 1 is all you will ever need, under any conditions, unless your car is a modded monster.

Adding the DBA 5000 series discs really puts the braking system capacity way out in the stratosphere

Option 2 is simply overkill and so too much weight and moment from iron discs and calipers... and really, totally cool... see if you can find some affordable ceramic discs and for it

Hey Kdee10, I have a mate that works for PBR too.

He got me the Muscle Pack which was $1450 (I think) then got Nizpro to install them for $250.

It was all 4 discs, Calipers, Pads, Braided Lines and Fluid. RRP is closer to $3K fully installed and they work a treat.

They are the same that are on the FPV's standard.

I could have gone the M Series upgrade for about $4000 through him. RRP is over $6K if I remember right.

These are the same brakes that are on the new Corvette.

There is no use paying full price for the DBA's if you can get the PBR's this cheap.

Thanks a lot for the response guys, I am thinking that the Muscle pack might be the way to go, seeing I can get them for a greatly reduced price, also, people her work at PBR get an allowance each year so if the father in law is really nice to me he may just wack them on his allowance !!! Now that would be sweet !!

Thought that I would start with upgrading the brakes, then onto the go fast parts later, as the brakes in this model are crap... as I have heard?

Don't waste your cash. Rear callipers in the "muscle pack" are the same as standard. Just get the C6 calliper, braided lines, rotors and pads from PBR and if you know someone inside, you'll aslo be able to get the different brake line bracket. Ford's retail on that piddly piece of metal is over $60 and about $42 trade. The standard bracket (about 4 cm less metal) is about $2.30.

I would get the c6 calipers etc which I understand to be the M-series upgrade from PBR, but I do not have 18inch rims, only the standard 17's which come with the car, so that setup would not fit unfortunately. When I do decide to get these from him, I need to give him all the part numbers so he will get me the correct parts.

If you want upgrade your rears as well I would look at getting the rears of a terri or a Bf, the rears are vented unlike the PBR kit and the stock ba discs.

Picked up mine from FTG salvage for about $400, just dont forget to grab a set of braided hoses for the rear from PBR as well.

the c6's aren't the m-series, they are the ones in the other pack

Is the shudder due to the front or the back as well?

Just wondering, if its safe to just do the DBA4000 slotted and Bendix Ultimates on the front? I.e. dont want to create any balance issues.
