haha you reading this neo? :P

as far as I know his thinking is that it will cost $xxx just to get a mechanic to find out whats wrong with it and that doesnt guarantee a fix, but he can get a new engine for $1500ish and have it installed for a carton + other small misc stuff needed for it.

yeah millers is right im weighing up the costs of a labor and mechanic and rebuild Vs a replacement then I can take my time and get my stock one rebuilt stronger 2 engines are better then one. anyone know of a wreckers other then ferntree as they have no engines ATM.

As a mechanic, I still can't understand why you're condemning an engine that may be a simple cheap fix?

You keep saying rebuild or replacement as if you've already made up your mind.

At the end of the day it's your money, but at least get it diagnosed. You might be surprised.

If the noise is coming from the top end I.E rocker cover and gets louder when you rev it or under load I could almost bet it's your timing chain guides most likely the top one take your rocker cover off not uncommon I did a couple when I worked at ford and I did one a month ago where I'm working now not hard to fix if you did the chain all the guides and tentioner including labour shouldn't cost more than $850 drive in drive out.
