I have a stock system that has no mufflers at all, this is for off road use only.

its really really loud way above legal and is not advisable for street use.

im not sure about the ute, the rear muffler on a sedan is the main noise reducer.

its louder with no rear muffler and the stock centre muffler in place, with no centre muffler and twin 3 inch hotdogs at the rear its real loud and hetrodines like a loud 300zx.

you need a balance pipe before the twin hotties to remove this strange tone.

you should be happy with centre muffler removal only its not too loud, im using a berklea centre muffler and twin 3 inch hotdogs at the rear and it sounds nice also has a 5 inch cat and 4 inch pipe off the cat to a custom splitter.

Would removal of both mufflers create less back pressure, thus effecting torque? Or is the main restriction the CAT here? Getting my centre muffler removed, and whole section made up with just stock pipes, and when ringing around was advised by one work shop to remove the rear muffler too and just have straight pipes everywhere. When I asked if this would be too loud, they said "no" :spoton:

Think about it mate, mufflers are there to reduce noise. No mufflers = very noisey & droney.

Buy a cat-back system or just remove the centre muffler to start with if it's a different note you're after. If it's performance, stick a hi-flow cat in & the note will become deeper as well as an added bonus :spoton:

Also best to confirm then, when my straight pipes for centre muffler area go in on Friday, will it DECREASE performance due to backpressure? I don't need to get my car-retuned right? Currently 265rwkw on 10psi :spoton:

No, it should not decrease performance... In saying that, its not going to dramatically increase flow or power so a retune isnt needed.

Through to center muffler, the pipe diameter actually goes down to 1 and 3/4 inches as opposed to the 2 and 1/4 inches for the rest of the catback, so you should decrease backpressure.

You will notice that your exhaust will burble and pop a lot more too. Iv read that this usually goes away if the vehicle is retuned!
