That said, the hot spots on it should not be happening. Looks like it's happening on the floater plate as well from the piece I can see of it in the photo...........poor machining.....material quality???? Definitely not good for an AP product (now owned by Brembo anyway)........ Smoke them tyres Member 557 Member For: 17y 5m 29d Gender: Male Location: Brisbane Posted 01/03/09 08:53 AM Share Posted 01/03/09 08:53 AM The flexing in the drivestraps in normal use to allow the pressure ring away from the disc to disengage the clutch....but it depends if the movement is controlled and equal.......Is the material on the pressure ring next to the drivestraps any thinner than the rest of the pressure ring? (ie heat sink capacity). Is there any impediment to cooling airflow in those 3 spots? (wouldn't think so as there are no mount lugs there to impede cooling).Have you put a ruler and feeler gauge (or light) acrosss the plates to check for high spots yet? (poor machining).I have one of the old Repco twin plates in my old turbo and have rebuilt it a few times due to normal wear and have not seen that heat pattern appear in it yet. But on the floater plate it has leaf spring fingers on each side where the 3 drive slots are to stabilise and centralise the floater plate on disengagement...it's as quiet as.Is there any odd wear on the sides of the floater plate drive lugs or matching top hat lugs? Fretting etc.How noisy has the clutch been on disengagement?Would be interested in some more shots to help diagnose/offer suggestions as to cause.AP needs to do a bit better I think.... cheers Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/54931-ford-at-its-greatest/page/2/#findComment-833201 Share on other sites
