I couldn't quite find a definitive answer so I thought id just throw the question up. Are MT ET street radials street legal?

Reason for the question is I drive down to t/ville (2 1/2hrs away) on my normal tyres but change else where before I get to the drags so I can get more runs instead of stuffing about when I get there & also theres a comp being organised up here called nq fastest street car with a street trim & race trim division attached.

We're trying to argue the finer points of what a street car should be deemed as. There trying to make it strict to make it as legit as possible & the only thing that might stop me from being in the street trim class & if all goes well on the day goin pretty close to taking it out is my tyres. I dont want to even attempt to run on my normal tyres as it will be almost dangereous & pointless with how we have to launch these things to get them moving. If they are well I don't have a prob except if they pull out the db meter on the exhaust but I think they squashed that idea as there will be too many that will fail.

Thanks John

Don't know if that's true.

I drive mine an hour to the strip with MTs on, mainly for the security of the wheels I've taken off and the trolley jack, too many tealeaves about.

They've never let me down yet.

Legal on the road? No.

in the states they are legal because they have a DOT rating, but we fail to recognise that rating and because they have either no ,load or speed rating we do not accept them as being legal.

How much power are you running mate? I find that after my MT's have seen a few runs they need a 'cool down' or else they just fry through 1st & 2nd.

Aside from that, the normal roads would shred your tyres compared to the dragstrip wouldn't they? Much rougher surface in comparison...

I still would be changing them in townsville so id be travelling there on my normal tyres but just for the street trim argument is more important.

Ohhh well guess I'll have to argue the safety point with not racing with them.

check with the rule makers, a lot of drag stuff is directlty copied from the states and will aloow DOT approved tyres, so they may be legal for road use, but they may be legal for racing.

its sought of a privalty organised event so the rules/criteria are being made up from scratch but I might look into what other comps have deemed street trim/legal. We've got it to full weight of vechile so no internal weight reduction, full exhaust, no nos, pump fuel, registered, but tyres are still under discussion. Theres a cruise coarse we all have to travel before hand as well.

I drive pretty sedately 80km/hr on the way there and back, all highway.

Don't think they ever get to 'operating temp' as I can spin them pretty easily on the road.

350rwKw, though recent retune and cat removal the dyno now says 404.

Drags Sat and Sun, so we'll see.
