sometimes its just gremlins.

honestly, I've had it happen to mine. started up rough as hell. turned it off, gave it a few seconds to collect its thoughts, restart, and the problem is gone. happened when I first got the car, has never happened since, and its been 3+ years!!

if it doesn't happen again in the next few weeks, I wouldn't worry about it.

EDIT: actually check that all the pipes to and from the bov are hooked up or blocked properly. I had a lumpy idle when I forgot to put the vacuum hose back onto the bov once.

UPDATE: ok today I had the day off so I thought I might treat myself to some slotted brakes discs to sort out my other issue, BUT again rather having a rough idle I noticed while I was driving when I turn left sometimes (about 3 times) it coughed and splatted and then woke up 2 itself and showed it true colours, it was like I had no throttle and it wouldnt go anywhere until it sorted itself out. im guessing when I turned the corner the petrol must have swayed to the other side of the tank it wasnt able to suck up any fuel until it leveled out. my thoughts anyway. any ideas people?
