Just got myself one of these the other day and I must say not a bad bit of gear. Well after doing the usual stuff of trying to find free sh*t to put on it, I came across something that some of you guys might like(or already know).

If you have the AUX cable then you can use your Iphone for music and video through your speakers, but the best thing I learnt is that you can also use the connection as a hands free device through your speakers.

Cruising along listening to your itunes muse and you get a phone call, music fades out and you answer your call. All is played through your speakers, end call and the music keeps playing.

You may already know this and there may already be a thread on it, but it is 0210 in the morning and I'm on holidays :roflmbo: and just thought I would share.

that's good news. I knew it would do the music thing but now I have hands free in Aus which is cool.

Be careful with the things if you take them O/Seas. I had an N95 with Vodafone and making regular daily long calls to Aus and emails from anywhere in the world the bill would come to $600 - $800 a month.

Then I switched the Company phones to Optus (thieving fcukers) and brought my shiny new easy to use iPhone to the UK and used it for 3 weeks, not even a month, doing emails etc and same amount of talking and emails as I did on the N95 then got before I got the first bill Optus was on the phone to the comapny telling them they wanted $3500 before the account was even due, because GET THIS my share was$7234, needless to say I told them to get farked, referred it to the ombudsman as theft by omission and deception, unlocked the Iphone here in the UK and shoved in an o2 sim on a plan that give 300 int minutes and unlimited data email and internet roaming every month for 10 pounds and then charges 10p, 22 cents, a minute for Int calls.

Love the phone but Optus are a pack of thieving mongrels. heard abouit another bloke who went to NZ and cooped an $18,000 bill in 2 weeks using the internet on his so be careful. My iTunes downloads to fill it up cost $300+ as well. I'll no doubt have to pay the optus bill which is fine, but the baStards can wait till the last minute cause principle of it pi$$es me off.

Moral of the story: Optus are a cesspool of thieving scum, and Don't believe what the lying pricks at the joint tell you when they sign you up, and stay off the internet, google earth, emails and phone calls when your O/Seas.

Imagine the mods another 7k would get for the Phoon

The only bad thing about the iPhone is that you need to use iTunes to interface with it - which sucks!

Interesting story there HD! I have a little one of my own in similar circumstances... Mine has a better outcome but.

Before I start, I am with Optus, and the do indeed suck. This story was my little “stick it to the man” kind of justice for Optus’ crappyness over the years!

Before I went over to the UK I brought a phone off Optus with pre-paid credit and the intention of using the credit and then chucking it when it ran out and buying one in the uk from a local carrier.

I used most of the Optus credit before I even left Aus and when I got to the UK I thought I would use the rest. First day I was there I called the folks back home and chatted for a while expecting the call to drop out fairly quickly as the credit would soon run out. Anyway, I spoke for a fair while and it didn’t drop out so I hung up thinking I had more credit than I first thought. A few days later, I tried again. Spoke for ages and it never dropped out.

I thought to myself, there is no way I could have possibly had enough credit to last this long as I only had like $30 worth to start with!!! I continued calling Aus every few days and after a couple of weeks I went over to Europe and to my surprise the phone picked up the signal from the local carriers and continued to work! I was handing my phone around to all my mates whenever they wanted and we were calling Australia and talking for as long as we liked! We would get blind and ring people back home! This went on for about a month and then one day I went to a new country and it just stopped working and never worked again. Sad day for all! I got a virgin card from then on.

I never got a bill or anything because it was pre-paid credit to start with, but I would have loved to have known how much of a bill we actually clocked up!!! There would have had to have been some red faces over at Optus when they finally realised!

hehehe! Yeah, that's it. I probably ruined it for everyone else! Optus still might be paying my bill off! Your little 7 grand effort should put a dent in the rest of my bill! :roflmbo:

They both have their pro's and con's depending on what the user wants but the iPhone's OS is miles ahead of Windows Mobile.

I must say I am loving this iphone thingy. While playing around last night with it and putting a movie on it I had on the computer, I plugged it in to the ute just to see what the sound and picture would be like.

Well lets put it this way, it was a good movie and I didn't spill any beer in the ute.

And as for using it for hands free, you will need to adjust the volume when on the phone as the other person will get echo, so I found mine to be good aat around 25ish on the volume.

I did a lot of research into the different options and wound up buying one too.

Doc, how much and what kind of internet use do you use it for? I was worried about getting a big bill when I go away to EU in a few months so I went on Voda's 400mb/month plan. I've had the iphone for almost to months now, and I've only used a total of 34.4mb. That's using it for emails (say 20-30 sent and same received per day) ebay at least a couple dozen times a day, checking this website a few times, a few other forums and occasionally for maps.
