mabey angel, but I think a hi-po car will always be more collectable than a 4x4. just cos their rare dosnt mean they'll attract 700k+ prices. xw gtho phase 1.5 for example. rare as but still dont pull the "stupid" prices.

in 10 years ill bet you wont be able to pick up a rpo83 coupe for under 500k.

The only equation is is what is someone prepared to pay for what they want? Work that out and you could be rich. Its highly unlikely that I would have such money in my lifetime to spend $500 000 plus on. Should I find myself in that position, would I buy an old XA, XB or XC coupe that I always dreamed about. Would I buy an Mad Max replica that I think ar cool as f*ck r would I buy any number of dam sexy modern cars.

The answer, well I think I would lean towards a modern car, if in the future everything goes to sh*t and we are all driving around in electric and alternate recylable crap buzz boxes, then I would fork out my hard earned for any well set up car with a great sound track and the push in the back feeling.

When oil runs low, and petrol is $20 a litre, no petrol powered car is going to be worth jack.

No modern cars will be worth more money than the new price for them, its not like it was back then when the GTHO's, XU1's and RT's were race cars for the road and competed at Bathurst. They were legends from the moment they went on sale, and prices for some have never really dropped below what they sold for new, especially in the case of the Phase 3. They will always be legends. Can't say that for todays cars.

Theres more oil in the ground than we have already pulled out. Yeah its harder to getand yes fuel prices will rise, but comparitively speaking you can buy as many litres of petrol on an average wage today as you could 20 years ago.

yes the xD didnt have to be a fairmont ghia, but it was still the option 54 euro sport pack. like I said ford can verify a esp.

Maybe I should have hung onto my AU S, "ESP". :roflmbo: They sold stuff all of em and the came with all of the XR6 running gear like IRS, LSD body kit and interior (except the seats were trimmed differently).

Maybe, any petrol driven car will be worth a fortune when were all flying around in ozone powered hover ships!

You have to look at the reasons. Sure, by today's standards, the standard specs on a Phase III (etc) are pretty mundane. But back then they were fitted with the latest and greatest pieces of gear available so they could be raced. They'd also have to sell it to loose money in return for market credibility (aka Bugatti with the Veryon).

By today's standards a modern Phase III would have to have a balanced and blue printed, directed injected, highly tuned motor, lightened alloy suspension components, the latest technology adjustable shocks, huge 8 pot brakes, carbon fibre, etc, etc, etc. Now that would be a future collectors car. But, sigh, with the current mundane V8 Supercrap series, manufacturers not only have nowhere to showcase such a car, they have no reason to create one.

Another big point that many are missing is availability. In the case of the W427, the majority are being purchased to be put away for investment. Values of collectable items are always dictated by supply and demand. As has been said, they are worth whatever someone is willing to pay, which is greatly influenced by availability. In the case of the Phase IIIs, not too many people put them away for investment reasons (there are a couple of cases, but not many). They majority were either driven or raced and crashed. As a resuly, there are very few genuine Phase IIIs available. With the W427, even if Expensive Daewoo only make 427 of them, when it comes time to cash in on their investments there is likely to be a few of them around, scarcely driven, etc.
