My money would be on the T3 series Tickford Falcons. Hand built 5.6L stroker, the last and best iteration of the Ford Windsor V8. They were pretty rare even when new and a mint condition one in 30 years would be pretty appealing. If I had the cash to throw around at collecting cars (Fords), that's where my money would go

ya kidding right? the w427 will be worth nothing in the future. It was built as an "investment" car and the only people who have bought them are the people who expect them to increase in value in 10-15 or 20 years. so in 20 years you will have a hundred low k 20 year old cars on the market.. not exactly unique!

:idunno:

People (especially Expensive Daewoo fans) have short memories. Expensive Daewoo tried this in the 90s with the banana yellow GTP limited editions. They were huge money (for the time), with more power. Apart from being utter lemons (not just because of the colour), they were selling for next to nothing within 12 months.

They just don't make cars like the HOs any more. They were built to race, and they won. Today, race cars bear no resemblence to road cars.

The Mini Cooper is a good example. Would it be as collectable today if they hadn't dominated the racing in the 60s?

As hypnodoc as mentioned, it will never happen again unless a road going production car can win Bathurst, full stop.

All the above mentioned cars are just going to be dust collectors.

Agree with this comment. In my opinion they are the first really tough car that Ford Australia has produced since the option 097 XC Cobra's. Prior to that it would be the RPO83.

Expensive Daewoo wise, the VK Grp 3, A9X or the XU1 torana's.

Chargers never seen to get the attention they deserve either. I would love to own a Charger.

Cheers

Mark

something is only worth what someone is gonna pay for it

I went to a car auction a few years ago and they had the last valiant(chyrsler) made in the country. It was a std car 4.3/L column shift, base model CM I think. They had scratched in the boot the last bastard.A couple of guys wanted it and I think it sold around the 30k mark.As for the rpo 83 torana's chargers they have peaked in price and are on the way down.I know the guys form aussie mucle car sales and I think they sold a rpo for $200k some of the A9X torana's for about the same money and some charger's over the 100k mark. One phase 3 sold for about a million and the guy with the phase 4 has been offered over 2 million, not a bad investment for a car that was for sale at a car yard for about $16 000 second hand.Guys you just never know ,we may be driving the next collectable car right now.Cheers Nick

Better stick my Arse Spec away in the shed then. You also have to take into account that this present generation has been fed on 4clys and fuel economy principles, by the time most present 10 year olds are in a position to afford a collectable the whole concept of present day supercars may be dead and buried. I know I will be

The young ones still know what a phase 3 is and you will be surprised by the after market industry for these cars

.There is still blokes making a living out of model T fords. Nothing will ever come close to an XY and when I take my one out the younger generation don't miss it driving by.Seeing the shaker rock and roll at idle and stand under acceleration is second to none only if it handled, turned and stopped like the T there would be no need for the T.Cheers Nick

l would agree, from the Ford stable l would nominate the T3 TS-50 in manual, not many of them around and highly desirable.

No modern car made in Oz is going to approach the HO/XU1 etc as none of them are factory cars made for racing, that's where the legend was born and grew from.

l believe the Evo IX will remain desirable and possibly mildly collectable in the future, its a hardcore factory car in a unique shell and was made for racing homolagation. These days are pretty much gone sadly.

Cheers,

mondie
