Oh BTW I too apologize most sincerely for those who suffered the above rant with the diplomacy that on xr6turbo.com Forumers have...

 guess what? I seen a NSW Police XR6T HP at Ag Quip a couple of weeks ago. It was parked alongside a Late model camira HP and an unmarked SS. No comparison in the looks department! The XR6T just looks so right. How about that for back on topic!

Traffic lights were out on Friday afternoon near work (Civic ACT, pool end) and the police were directing traffic. didn't seem to be having a fun time of it thought.

But he got to go back to work in his very nice white Xr6T - no photos, apoligise in advance.

That XR6T would be either from Dubbo or Moree. There should also have been an XR8 from Dubbo and Lithgow. All of those cars would have the new style strobe lightbars which are a bit more aerodynamic but are larger than before. The radar head is now attached to the rear window on a bracket because there is no room to fit it on the new style light bar.

They are mighty fine cars and Fleet has been inundated with orders for both cars (Turbo and V8)

I don;t think Expensive Daewoo would be too pleased that they have to recall their SS Commodores because the cruise control has been failing causing the throttle to remain wide open. Therefore we are under direction not to use Cruise control on the SS.

I promise not to say anything in response to XFwannabe, because I don;t want to inflame a Forum on cars into how much I detest egalitarianism and unionism.

plonky and XFwannaBA, both points of view are well expressed and have merit.

I believe that, yes we are where we are today due in a very big part to what unionism did for the workers a few decades ago - it was the right way at the time, however it has now gone too far - and this is what plonky is really saying - the country can no longer afford the exhorbitant wages and conditions that unionists are demanding for their workers today, BUT it has to be paid to them because less and less people are gainfully employed, and so those who are, have to earn a lot so they can pay BIG taxes to support those who are not - a catch 22 for sure.

A good debate but one which can never be won (or lost) for tomorrow circumstances may again be different and the unions may again rise to be some use ...

Plonky: I dont not agree with what you are saying but I will defend your right to say it....Comrade.

Turbo6man: Thank you for a nice moderation, most diplomatic (and correct) of you.

Plonky : I you were unlucky enough (in the first place AND on this particular occasion) to be driving an SS when the Cruise Jammed and say the speed rose to 120 or so (no idea how long it takes, if your caught off gaurd or what) and happened to be pinged by either a radar or HWP Car would you have a recourse? Would you have to prove in court that the Cruise malfunctioned or cop the fine and biff it out with Expensive Daewoo or ?????

VicPol does use XR6 Turbos. They have no such modifications as "No speed limiter".

To clear up all mis-conceptions that people have about police cars these days, they have a higher capacity wiring harness (possibly alternator as well). This is for the radios, the light bar and all the other associated police electronics, same as a taxi has. In fact, in Victoria at least, it probably costs more to fit out a taxi than it does a police car as taxis have Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), polcie cars still don't. The dash is also police spec, although in the BA its not the visually different unit it was in earlier models.

Police cars, the normal XT/Executives have NO options at all, not even LSDs. They are bog standard. Same with the TMU (Vic Highway Patrol) cars, if it ain't standard, they almost certainly won't have it, unless, like the premium brakes, it may become an OH&S thing.

PS there is an unmarked XR6 Turbo in the Frankston TMU, that's how I know that VicPol uses them, I've seen it!
