As a matter of fact I am touchy about the constant slagging and innuendo.

It's only a job for Chrissakes! I love it, I get paid to do what people dream about and I strive to maintain the morality and standard that USED to be in this bloody world!

How about we give the 'cops are this...cops are that...I got a ticket once and the cop was so rude....etc etc etc' a rest. I'm not interested, Velvet Glove isn't interested, a lot of the other posters aren't interested and guests who look at the forum are probably not interested either.

We can all agree that driver licensing is a joke, there should be mandatory retrospective driver training and bi-yearly assessments, insurance companies can share the burden by giving a discount to those that complete defensive driver courses to encourage people to do it, stationary speed cameras are purely designed as an indiscriminate tax, there is too much focus on speed by the car haters at the RTA, Highway Patrol Police are amongst the best trained drivers in Australia and the manufacturers such as Ford and Expensive Daewoo go to great lengths to supply and develop a car to the Police that will do the job well so therefore the consumer is a winner.

I could go on and on about the things that the majority on here agree about but suffice to say I am 'touchy' about any denigration of my chosen career and will contunue to defend myself and others when uninformed people crap on!

Come to think of it, I bought a pie once and it wasn't that nice, so therefore bakers should be the next target!

I think bakers and pastry cooks should be the next target of villification!

PS I still think the current XR6T and XR8 are the best Highway Patrol sedan we have had since the 351 days!!!!!

I remember your (uninformed rant) on Australia's health care system. It does give you the shytes when someone who knows nothing of your daily life has an uninformed go at you doesn't it?

As for the police. They, like me, are public servants. Who have their own set of values and beliefs.

I have no problem with that, they are not the enemy and we all know the rules - don't we. No point in whinging if you are caught out.

Sorry AMoffat not having a go at you or your profession, just having a go at the 'hand out mentality' which is rife in Australia because the people you may come across every day are the same people that I come across every day.

They all get something for nothing, they think they deserve it, they contribute nothing, they treat me (and I suspect you) with derision and they exist purely because of the outrageous tax I have to pay and the expectation from too many people that the Government (which means us the taxpayer) will provide for them.

These people? The serial unemployed, the unmarried mothers with children to God knows how many fathers, the defacto relationships that take advantage of our generous welfare system, the druggies, the thieves, bleaters like ACOSS and the Union movement and basically anyone who is not prepared to put in a fair days work for their pay.

It may seem unfair and caring and have nothing to do with the egalitarian notion foisted upon us by left wing media types (who have flourished since the fall of Communism) but quite frankly I don't care.

I'm only interested in the welfare of myself, my family, my friends and my conservative ideals that are the basis for free market democracy.

I will now keep my moderate right wing political views to myself and promise not to argue about them again.

I guess you can see by my touchy responses today that I'm pretty sick of people not taking personal responsibility for their actions (yes another complaint at work by a sook who has been given tickets. I think the Police are the last group of people who still champion the wants of the majority and expect people to behave in a commonsense and reasonable fashion)

the Union movement

This is "The Union Movement" that fought for your right to a decent wage (though I believe it should be more, I wouldnt be a cop for 10 times the money) and also the right to an 8 hours day so you CAN care for your family and be involved IN their Welfare?

The Left Wing union movement before it has been corrupted by the "Me First, Screw People, I deserve it all" Right Wing Greed Mentality and policies something which on a closer look is the exact same bleating that you are so quick to deride from these "Welfare Cheats, Dole Bludgers" et al.

Without the Original Socialist Egalitarian Union Movement of a century ago you may be better off! Because you, me, all of us would be down in the Coal Mines as illiterate miners because we would have no barginning leverage as everyone who can look after themselves...is. You wouldnt be a proud member the police, I wouldnt be starting up my own business trying to shake off the stigma of dole bludger/TAFE student that some people so readily apply, Ken wouldnt be scaring new forum users.
