VIC POLICE have a mixed batch of 20 XR6T + XR8 new smart cars soon to hit the roads all painted in blueprint with the normal police blue white and new orange stickers on them.

These cars are the full hogg un speed limited, speedo recailibrated and all have premium brakes as testing with stanard brakes on higway runs failed miserably.

These cars will be split into all areas around Victoria and will also be used as promotional cars at shows.

Actually atessa I think you will find they won't be getting any XR6 Turbos, only the XR8's as they were offered the premium brake package for no extra cost.

No harm intended but my source is pretty good.

In NSW we have both Turbo and V8. The Performance brake package was not supplied free however there is a particular deal done by NSWPOL & Ford. This includes 50/50 for the HWP Fleet.

My source is very good too!

Hopefully the cops driving these cars are properly trained otherwist there'll be a tonne of nice cars wrapped around trees.

Really ? Do you just think they give the keys to anyone in the job who feels like driving something quicker?

Even the most basic Police training requires at least 7 days of full time driver training just so you can drive the regular 6 cylinder Commodores or Falcons.

To set foot in anything above the regular 6 cylinder, and where I come from this is XR6Ts, XR8s, SS Commodores, WRXs and (believe it or not) Volvo Station wagons, you have to do a pursuit drivers course. Which is at least 2 weeks, and quite hard to pass. In fact in my job if you want to have any sort of formal driver qual aside from your regular patrol permit, you have to do a course. This includes VIP protection driving, 4 wheel driving, tactical driving etc etc

To hope that Police have proper training so they dont 'wrap them around a tree' is pretty naive.

Well done VG, took the words right out of my mouth!

Unfortunately as much as I'd like other professions to cop a bagging every now and then, I don't think it will happen because apart from HWP, no one else gets to do what we do on the road.

Getting paid to drive at high speed under the most arduous circumstance, getting equipped with great equipment, getting paid well, getting lots of overtime from funding for State operations, getting to drive a brand new latest model Australian high performance sedan and not having to pay for the fuel or tyres or servicing every day certainly makes up for having to deal with the 95% of cretins that hold a license that they found in a Cornflakes box and who believe it's their 'Goddamn right to drive wherever and however they want to"

It also makes up for the abuse, dirty looks, cold shoulders in public places and constant stream of whining to the media.

I love my job !!!!!
