Buy 2 of these Jaycar Amp and be done with it, or buy one for now and only run it off one coil and when more funds permit buy the second and link them.

No good. They will only make about 400 rms into 4ohm load (one coil) Not enough power even if you had two amps. that's still only 800watts rms. Need at least 1000.

Dont run a high end woofer off something half-arsed like the jaycar amps. Yeah they make some power but they sound horrid. You dont want to make your $800 woofer sound like a $200 woofer.

Please explain your definition of "sounding horrid" as far as bass or low frequencies goes?

And if you didn't read the page properly 2 of these linked @ 2ohm's (Dual 4ohm sub in parallel) puts out 1800rms not 800rms!

Power is power as far as sub frequencies goes my friend...

found the same amp here for $300 each- www.caraudiowarehouse.com.au

also make sure your amp is 2 ohm stable. you can't just run any amp at 2 ohms.

run each voice coil in parallel and wala, 2 ohm load on the amp.

Yep. Go see a professional. :spoton:

Smicky explained it as simple as it gets.

If you don't understand it don't attempt to mess around with it.

You'll end up doing damage to something.

100% correct...

As for the other guys talking about power/amps for the sub... again all are correct... the Jaycar amps (from memory without looking it up right this second) will power the sub - I think they have a mono block which is even 1 ohm stable at something like 2000W RMS constant (given it is with about 2% THD)... Which should power the sub in Parallel or Series IN PROBLEMS... but as for it sounding any good... it is a budget priced amp, in turn sound 'quality' isnt that of a refined reference amp which you would buy for 800$ or more... But again bass is bass, so it is to a smaller degree less important to that of the power being sent to a tweeter... But still better to spend the extra if you can -

"A system is only as good as its weakest link!"

Since you still confused - its not a bad thing... Most plumbers wont build a whole house, or repair a TV, just as a painter typically wont install an air con, and a electronics guy or IT tech wont concrete a slab... So there is no shame in walking into a store..

sorry dude, please please please GO TO A AUDIO SHOP!!!

FORGET WHAT EVERYONE, INCLUDING I HAVE SAID, AND PLEASE GO TO A AUDIO SHOP!

This way your warranty stands, wont be questioned and no one will blame you, or the way things where installed etc.. If anything does go wrong then its up to them to fix it!

At short of any of us coming to your place, grabbing your gear taking the car and your credit card, buying the rest of your gear, then installing it all for you there isnt a lot we can do for you...

PLEASE GO TO A AUDIO SHOP!

I noticed on second look of the jaycar site that they CAN be strapped together to make 1800rms so my bad there. Remember that is probably measured at at least 10% THD.

A rubbish amp can make your sub sound just as bad as a rubbish amp on your speakers. on a cheap amp your bass will be muddy and uncontrolled. a better amp will rectify this. power means a hell-of-a-lot when it comes to subs but its no good without the control (dampening factor) as well. this is where cheap amps suffer.
