It doesn't happen when the cars cold, more once it warmed up. If the car is parked on an angled driveway the 'thud' is a lot worse.I have found that if I pump the brake a few times before going into reverse I can stop the thud from occurring most times. Seems like when normally pushing the brake before going into reverse the brakes aint grabbing enough so torque converter load is still on the transmission.Anyone else have this problem? Generally it has alot to do with how much load was on the transmission when put into Park. The best way to do it is to stop the vehicle, engage the park brake, let the foot brake off and then select park. This should make sure that there is no load on the box Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/54625-fg-zf-reverse-thud/#findComment-824039 Share on other sites
INASNT Member 361 Member For: 18y 9m 8d Gender: Male Location: Melbourne Posted 16/02/09 02:23 AM Author Share Posted 16/02/09 02:23 AM Yes handbrake goes up after I put it into P, and then out of P into R first then the handbrake off when taking off.I have done the above on my other auto cars without any issues Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/54625-fg-zf-reverse-thud/#findComment-824043 Share on other sites

That's what is loading up the locking peg (or whatever it's called) on the transmission.Hardly noticeable in the utes though thanks to the agricultural leaf-sprung suspension! Appears like you are losing the plot to an unsuspecting passenger Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/54625-fg-zf-reverse-thud/#findComment-824110 Share on other sites

Hate to think you would get that noise after paying 200+k for a car.
