that's why I said that unless you go on mph, there are too many variables to consider if your basing which is faster on power figures!

For street use, 6 gears would be hard to beat. More ratios and more economy becasue of the double OD. But I would like to see quarter mile time comparisons. Can you get a decent converter for the 6 speed yet? I'd also say 1st is just about useless with big power. In the end, if you can get the power to the ground, more ratio's would probably be better and it is a stronger stock box.

I put power to the ground at the strip with MT's in first gear. Can't stall too hard or it's all over red rover!

Mine is 4speed and for street duties would a bigger stall convertor get me off the line quicker without stalling it up over the standard convertor (ie: just flooring it)?

I ask this as I was considering getting one installed but the standard tyres are useless with the power I have now (330rwkw) so need grippier tyres but I assume the bigger convertor would make it even worse at the lights if stalled but would it would soak up some power to get me moving quicker off at the lights if just floored?

mine dead stock (6spd auto XR6 Turbo) ran a 13.60@167km/h.

that night I also ran another 13.6 and multiple 13.7's.

as stock they will chop a 4spd.

I reckon the best way to compare the two boxes is to have a look at whats faster in stock form.

Whats time have guys got on a stock BA with 4spd?

I ran my BF 6 speed auto in stock form and got a 13.8, and averaged 13.9s all night.

I've got a 4sp in mine and had it rebuilt about 2 years ago. It's run 3 x 10s passes (banned from WSID each time) and has lasted quite a number of other 11s passes on the 19s. It's still ok but slips in 4th under full load.

I think that the 4 speeds are quicker because of the ability to get off the line quicker via a stally and because they have less gears to go through (3 rather than 4 or more) they are also less likely to break traction and slip in between changes.

The 6sp boxes are fantastic on the road but as most of us know there is not much we can do to the stallys to help them get of the line better. Allowing more boost and holding this at the line is not healthy to the drivetrain as people have found.

They will get quicker and quicker in the ET once the ECU for the ZFs is properly cracked (I don't think that this has been fully achieved yet??)

From what I have seen the 6 sp ZFs are also getting higher MPH than similar powered 4 sp boxes. Hence they have more potential to do a better ET.
