I joined up in October '07 when I fell in love with XR6T's after being blown by several of them in my VYSS. Was always a Expensive Daewoo man and eventually I cracked...still love Holden's don't get my wrong but have always had a soft spot for the XR6T. Anyway I sold the VY back in '07 and thought I would save up and get an XR6T...had a few things go wrong in '08 and it all went out the window!...I STILL WANT ONE!I have my eye on a 2003 BA XR6T and since these cars are new to me, I thought I'd give you guys a run down on what I know about it and see if you think it is worth me getting...The ad reads as follows...new xforce twin 2 1/2 exhaustengine only done 15,000 kmsdyno over 300 rwkwleather interior20 inch wheels great condition with no markssix stacker with premium soundtinted windowsgreat car selling due to buying bikereliable everyday carnot many BA turbos with only 54,000kms leftFirst question I asked was why the car has 54,000kms on it but the engine has only done 15 and the guy told me that the previous owner put a brand new engine in from ford because the original one was pinging...he had a receipt to prove it.I asked if the engine had been modified and how is it managing to pump out 300rwkw and he told me that as far as he knows it has bigger injectors and fuel pump and the cat has been modified to increase power. I asked how much boost it's running and he said he wasn't too sure and that the majority of the work was done by the previous owner...all he has done is the exhaust and growler. He said he has never had a problem with the car.I've had a look and its pretty neat...the condition of the car is good.If I got the car I'd probably like to find out exactly what has been done to the engine and maybe bring it back down to stock first...see how it goes for a bit and then do my own mod's as I please.I really like the car and I am keen to get it!What do you guys think? Is there something I should look out for first? Is this a good starting point. Any tips, suggestions, pointers, advice etc would be GREATLY appreciated...Cheers, Joe Edited 11/02/09 12:08 AM by hyprxr
Guest Guests Posted 11/02/09 12:18 AM Share Posted 11/02/09 12:18 AM It's very tidy looking & the km's are good for an 03 BA... How much is he asking?Tell him you want it thrown on the dyno to check AFR's, boost etc as a condition of sale. He shouldn't be worried about $50 if there's nothing to hide & it will help his sale even if you don't buy it. Take it to a site sponsor close to you & they could most likely tell you the mods as well. Also, get the log/service book out & check for the previous owner's details. If possible, give him a call & find out as much as you can about the engine swap, mods, why he sold etc to give you a better idea on history. The pinging would only need an engine to be replaced if it spat a rod or melted a piston... Sounds dodge imo.Things to look out for are the box & diff mainly. Make sure there isn't excessive play in the diff when selecting D after R, also when going at cruising speeds then put your foot down. The auto shouldn't have any flaring/slipping either. Check the rear window sill as they are proned to rusting as well apparently. I've never seen this but have heard of a few BA/F's that have been left in the weather their whole life that don't agree with the water too well.Hope this helps, Dean

Posted 11/02/09 01:40 AM Share Posted 11/02/09 01:40 AM (edited) It sounds odd you want to buy a modified car then return it to stock and then modify it again. Seems like a waste of money. The ad says 300rwkw's, so does he have a dyno readout? If so go back to where the work was done and ask a few q's. Also find out how it was tuned and does he has the flash box? 300rwkws seems alot for just fuel pump, injectors and cat. Yes every dyno and every tuner is different but just seems high to me. I don't think he knows all that much about them himself. Will have to try and get a hold of the guy who had it before.

Ran 12.3 @ 116mph to so the power was definitely there & it is possible

So I have my doubts unless running alot of boost 16psi or more

Reason I would want to bring it back is to ensure everything is safe...I'd like to find out exactly whats been done and bring it back down and do mods to my own liking...
