Hi all,

I have a bit of a question here... where the heck is my BOV!?

I bought my xr6T as it is, and it does make a very loub BOV sound when its meant to but I dont know where it is... please see the photo below and any help/suggestions would be helpful... It resonates through the exhaust well and sounds great so there must be one somewhere?

Reason I ask is im concerned that this setup is a bit dodgy??? and also I have to get the car inspected soon so if I find out if its obvious or not then I may or may not have to remove it.

...or its not dodgy and is a top setup!? can someone please explain to me why it would be this way :)

Looks like the previous owner has removed the Factory BOV mate. It should be at the back of the Crossover. As you can see there is a fitting left open there, I would be blockin that off as it will be sucking in un-filtered air.

The arguement For and Against BOVs will rage on forever, but I would suggest you get one bud

hey senna thanks for that...

was just reading some of the other bov threads...

so what youre saying is there is no Blow off valve at all? Is that "legal"?

The bottome pipe on the photo is blocked off (in the end of that bit of hose) is that related?

Sorry, trying not to sound too stupid! Just dont know anything about turbos and bov's etc!

Hmm... so at this stage teh sugegstion is to block off that top fitting, but eventually getting a bov on it?

:sleepystuff: block that open pipe NOW that is sucking unfiltered air straight into you turbo and engine ,whoever left that like that should be shot

this is my set up gfb after market valve ,you can get the turbo smart one that is a direct replacement for the factory one.

so youve got the top whole blocked off and the bov attached to the bottom one? (does that make sense) ...mine has the bottom blocked off and the top open... im guessing now that the last owner nicked the bov off it and just left it? but the strange thing is it makes one hell of a bov type noise though... would it still do that if theres no bov anywhere? and what will happen if I block off that top one making both those wholes blocked?

thanks all for your advise, trying to understand the whole concept before jumping in and ruinings something.

that noise is compresser surge when the air is trying to get back passed the turbo,if you just block the other hole that sound will stay it will just stop crap getting into the engine , just buy some rubber chair leg ends 25mm from the hardware shop only a couple of bucks and clamp one on that open pipe asap

if you fit a bov then you will get the air venting sound

you crossover hasn't been bolted back on properly either ,I think it might have had some after market bits on it that have removed before the sale?

Leave that hole open, buy this

Then fit an aftermarket BOV that is plumbed back into the intake through said open hole. That's a completely legal setup & as you are going for a pit inspection you'd wanna keep it legal :stirthepot:

Yeah, the top opening in the crossover needs to be blocked off. Headover to bunnings and find a chair stop to fit onto it and a washer to tighten it up.

The lower one is as you've avised blocked off? Or is there a BOV attactched?

There still however is the issue of the vaccum line, which is a thin hose attatched to the BOV which causeses it to open/close on/off throttle. This should also be blocked off, and with the pics can't tell. To locate it, look behind the crossover, and there should be gold/dark goldish metal pipe (maybe 3mm wide) that has a nipple comming off it. This should be blocked off, as it would be going to the top of the BOV (if there was one).

I know some one is trying to sell this pipe , but that would be the last thing I would fit before going to the pit inspect it's not factory even if you do stuff around run a plumback hose for it ,it will give them something to lookat ,

If you just left them both blocked the inspecters probably won't say anything ,I don't think it is illegal to have no bov

it looks like it may have a boost gauge running off the vac line
